Where the banshees live and they do live well

And the children dance to the Pipes of Pan

Around the 9 minute mark, I found myself staring through the computer screen with no focus, unsure if I was in fact dead and had woke in some cataclysmic underworld of pain and torture.

I'm really not sure what just happened but even if it was completely wack, it caused some sort of weird response which is better than commercial radio.

Just got the new Heilung on vinyl and haven't had time to give it a listen. Needless to say, I'm pumped.

Mizmor is dirty as hell. Love the cover too.

Thanks for the Neofolk recommendations by the way! I'll check them in the next few weeks!

Quellenthol is an older band but a new discovery.

I drove yesterday for like six hours and spent most of it with Saor and Downfall Of Nur.

Anyone like riffs?

Do go on.
Ha! Nothing much, just standing there as a 13 year old English boy watching Dee Snider getting everyone to punch the air chanting "sick motherf**ker" ... I thought "f**k me. this is embarrassing".... luckily, it was literally a case of Sisters of Mercy to the rescue shortly thereafter.

Blackie Lawless of WASP with a codpiece shooting sparks out of it, whilst the crowd entertained themselves by throwing plastic bottles filled with piss through the air... marvellous.

:hihi:

Meatloaf got battered with the piss bottles too.

Best bit bar far though, either that or another year, I forget how many times I went, Tommy Vance DJing got pelted with piss and stropped about it with the crowd, got into a right temper.

Good times

Thanks for sharing Heilung, 15 mins in and this is a great find. Looks like quite a new project too? Will be interesting to see where they go next.

On the positives of very old school stuff, great memories of Motorhead, Hawkwimd, Sabbath, Whitesnake, Maiden, Priest, Saxon, UFO, Ozzy, the list goes on :)

One Rode To Asa Bay
I saw Sepultura supported by Fudge Tunnel. I thought that was on the Arise tour but maybe I'm mistaken. No Fear Factory though.

Word had got around that Andreas had broken his arm and we thought they'd have someone replace him. But he came out on stage with his arm held together with pins and rocked.

Still have my old Bathory vinyls in a box somewhere. Good times. Had the first five albums (up to Hammerheart).

Yeah, I only heard of them fairly recently myself. The other group in a similar vein I latched onto at the same time is Wardrun, also good.

Anyways, answering the other part of the original question : Growing up, most of my mates were into 'heavy metal' and all that fitted under to that umbrella, including the squeaky end, but it wasnt really my main thing, just individual bands here and there. 3 or 4 decades later, its still individual bands, but Ive definitely started to listen to a lot more black and doom stuff in the past decade or so. At the lightweight end there's stuff like Opeth (obvs), Baroness, Pallbearer etc, through to some of the weirder/darker stuff (almost certainly as a result of Celtic Frost's "Into the Pandemonium") like Blut Aus Nord, Wolves in the Throne Room, YOB, Triptykon, plus some of the sludgy/drone stuff, like Earth. So I occasionally pick up a wee bit of random stuff, looking for gems. Try Arckanum if you want a black metal band with neofolk sensibilities.
Oh and Sub Rosa. Occasional 'classical' folk covers, a dual-violin based lineup, and brutal as hell when necessary. Sub Rosa are f**king awesome.

Maybe also check out Myrkur.

I have also have a weird soft spot for mid period Therion, but dont tell anyone.

edit : said 'Pilgrim' when I actually meant 'Pallbearer'. Pilgrim are good, though, but in the slow sludgy doom zone
