Pretty much -
unless you can specifically name a large number of previously-unquestioned sf2 samples which you can prove are illegitimate, manytone, mod or not, the debate is over.

Manytone has released a lot of great sample sets, some of which are in SF2 format. Some of those soundfonts ended up being shared illegally. So until you've suffered the same theft of intellectual property you shouldn't be debating at all.

Pardon? So, to paraphrase (wildly):
Until we've all been beaten by armed guards we're not permitted to discuss the relevant statistics concerning the number of people who don't get beaten up by guards versus those who do?
What kind of crack are you on? Can I have some?
There are all kinds of intellectual property on the net that get infringed, and I would personally posit that soundfonts get infringed far less than any other kind, if only because most are user-generated. If you'd like to counter that with a list as long as my arm, SHOW me the List!

PCs. :hihi:
VSamp. It's shareware, but good for me.

Get it from: http://www.vsamp.com/

Of course, GarageBand "just works" for loading most samples, including SoundFonts.

I had used Chicken's System for translation but it's always hard to keep all features of the programming when you go say from Kontakt to Gigastudio. But it's still a nice tool to have.

Noted & updated, Midiworks.
Steve, not quite the correct thread to be posting that, the threads more for general collection sites, not one-off's. Thanks anyway-

I've used a ton soundfonts in the past and must admit I've stumbled upon a handfull of suspect ones. However, sampling really is one of those grey areas. If you sample a sample and process the new sample and then create a soundfont or other vst instrument, are you violating copyright? Many companies have done exactly the same thing with hardware synths and sold virtual libraries legally.

EDIT - Forgot to add a link. Though it hasnn't been updated in years, http://www.hammersound.net/ has a decent collection of soundfonts.

Hey guys,

I just posted this as a parent thread and was redirected to this one by a a KVR moderator Meffy. I wanted to announce my new site Make Something Cool.

The idea behind the site is that you can upload your songs to share for criticism as well as your own loops and samples that you'd like to share under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

At present, I've uploaded 148 samples and loops that I've made myself while working on my first ever album, which I'm actually still working on. Most of my music is progressive rock/industrial based, but I think a lot of the beats would be usable in many other scenarios.

There are no ads and there is no pressure to sign up to gain access to these samples. I just wanted to contribute to a community of freely exchangable sounds that could be used to help beginners and experts alike.

The site is at : http://www.makesomethingcool.com/ (http://www.makesomethingcool.com/)

Thanks and hello! ;)

Hi,

We have published a number of zip files with free samples on our download page. There are two zip files with samples from our plugin Acoustic Kits and two zip files with samples from the plugin Ambient Kits. There's also a zip file with free samples from the Ambient Loops sample library.

Enjoy!
