You can find hundreds of them on Youtube, just write "soundfont sf2 and the name of the instrument you are looking for" in the search box.
Some of them are one file GM (general midi) soundfont containing around 128 instruments, which are not equally good, but you can extract from them the single instruments of your choice, with "sf2 splitter".

Here are two other places where you can also find some,

and

I'd like to encourage people to add their favorite sites (especially free ones) to my sfz wiki at https://github.com/jlearman/sfzwiki/wiki/SFZwiki . You have to join Github to modify that wiki, but otherwise it's open.

I think a wiki is a better tool for maintaining a big list than a forum. Forums are better for discussions.

I started that site a little while ago and it never quite took off, but a little community involvement would help a lot.

If you're not sure how to organize info or where to put it, feel free to stuff it wherever. I will occasionally reorganize material as it grows. I'll try not to mangle or delete any info that seems relevant. Start by creating your own page for things you'd recommend. Don't worry about duplications. Folks will quickly learn who shares similar tastes. And maybe someday I'll organize it all into a master list that can be sorted various ways, for convenience.

BTW if the list grows and the site matures, I'll probably migrate it to http://github.com/sfzinstruments -- if they'll take it. For now it's an experiment, but should be a helpful resource for collecting the kinds of information in these threads.

Also, feel free to just post here and ask me to add to my list; I'll be happy to do that.

You're right, of course, but sadly, that's a very time-intensive search, as the number of really bad free soundfonts overwhelms the relatively few quality ones.

Not that there aren't many quality sample sets! Just that the number of low quality ones is even higher.

You are absolutely right, finding good soundfonts is a long process. I am in my fifties and it has always been like a game for me to look for the best possible ones (your rhodes is one of them, thank you !), like others collect stamps or something else.

Today, i use only a few of them in my music because i mostly use vst instruments, but even if soundfonts are more and more rare nowadays, i still look here and there for a new one to add to my collection !

But they're not more rare, if you include sfz. The number of high quality sample sets is huge compared to what it was when I was searching 10 years ago. Back then, I could only find one decent piano. Today there are at least five really good ones. In fact, just before I got back into it, a friend started using them and asked about finding good ones. I said the search was long and the results were meager, last I looked. But then I looked, and omygosh did I find a lot! Just the http://github.com/sfzinstruments site alone is a treasure trove, and it's only the tip of the iceberg.

(BTW, one of today's really good pianos was available back then, but it was poorly mapped and barely playable. It could have been a great piano for anyone willing to spend the hours to fix the mappings.)

We also have some creditable free GM sets. Things get easier when it doesn't take forever to download a gigabyte file!
