For all we know, the considered this from the beginning and made a plan on how to reach this stretch goal. The why, how and who doesn't change that this is an absolute fantastic deal.
That's great :tu:

Oddly (and funnily) enough, some seem to take it quite personally .. so will leave them to it then

But then again I guess we've already seen a lot of that over the last two years

Of course all contingencies were planned. Marketers do learn inferential statistics, I believe. And? So what? My thought was, IK would lose face if they didn't hit 25,000 for their 25th anniversary. So, how do they facilitate that? The only answer is to extend the group buy. It's been fun observing how the plan has been laid put, watching people scheme to get into it on the cheap, watching the continuous whinging over a, yes, onerous business practice, but still a relatively minor issue.

It's been a shrewd move to get the group buy in before good friday, they messed up on the timing on some of their recent releases. They must have raised about a million by the time they got to 10000 customers so anything else is a bonus (and I've picked up pretty much everything they released since AT4 for about a fiver each)

They almost certainly planned all along for it to run through October, but intentionally didn't announce it. By staging it in this manner they create more hype and expectation along the way and have three last minute pushes rather than one. Make complete sense to me.
But then I'm happy anyway - I've got much more than I need or even wanted out of this GB.

So question remains, why do they have to this and not others? They don't is the answer, but they do because it pays off somehow. That ain't anywhere near a justification to me, just a choice making their users pay the bill an extra time.
This is a total nothing burger.
Who the hell likes to download 25-50-100-200gb of files?
That's right. Nobody.
Anybody who has downloaded a shit ton of huge files from any company is backing them up, so they don't have to go through that process again. Especially if you have slower or unreliable internet or have a cap on usage.
Who cares if IK makes a few dollars on hosting those big files, for those that didn't choose to back up?

As if I had any reason to download installers for mac when being on windows five years ago. Today these installers would likely have been outdated, anyway. Last year I switched to mac and now I cannot download my sounds. People´s defences towards this is hilariously fanboyish and ignorant to the bone, and still haven´t answered the question   Friggin age of internet stupification. You and IK deserve each other. Get a motel room, ffs.

in conclusion, vendors of commercial products should set their retail prices and fees equal to the actual production and operation costs, plus a reasonable margin determined by TribeOfHofuk
should you choose to transact with a company that violates this principle, as IKM clearly does, you shall henceforth receive the designation of "sheep"
