At least half way right... I was half way wrongENV1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:22 pm ...
Im afraid i have to stand corrected.
I just did some checking out of curiosity (like i said i dont normally use those other modes) and it turns out that the metering itself does not change to VU. The switch really only changes the ballistics, i.e. how the meter responds to the signal. But the actual scale remains the same. (Seems a bit pointless that way, but anyhow.)
So if 'true' VU metering is required then FreeG is not the right plugin. I think Sleepy-Time Records Stereo Channel would fit the bill for that. (ATN69 has a link in his post.)

I think that´s a quite dangerous approach...pascual wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 3:45 am Ok, but how about the second part of the question. Can I use the meters on vintage warmer without touching any other parameters and get the same results?
I’m trying a gain staging strategy I’ve read about in a couple of places that requires a vu meter...
And bummer about the freeG which I really like. I didn’t know about the back panel thing....
Afaik Vintage Warmer emulates saturation already in it´s default stage according to the input level...
So either you should feed it only at very low levels or better looking for a pure metering solution...
Do these all not work for you??

I’m gonna give them a try. For some reason my search wasn’t as successful. That's the free one I'd recommend.

I wanted to revisit this one after many years. Sadly the download requires a software manager installation. For one free plugin..ENV1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:39 pm Ultra Precise Metering + Fader if you need it.
Ballistics, PanLaw, etc. on the backpanel.
To me still the best.

Can somebody upload the 64bit dll? Or the OSX vst is also good.

Looks like the free Presonus VU Meter now works in all (VST3 capable) DAWs:
