Is Garrin trying to get version 2.0 features into the 1.0 release again?

Post

Hi Garrin,
I just thought of something else.
I don't know how hard it is to do - but it might be nice to have separate cab sim presets.
Users could set up their favourite 2x12, 4x12 etc setups and save them as cab presets (in a "cabs" folder).
Then they just dial in an amp sound, dial in a cab preset, tweak it - and save the whole thing as a preset.

It's not super important - as we can always just save "crunch 2x12", "crunch 4x12" etc.
But it would be nice ;)

I hope you don't think I'm being a pain in the ass - but here's one more thing.
It's definitely awkward setting up the two mics right now (and I'm pretty sure that the settings didn't always "stick" when I changed "sides") and I know you're looking in to it - so, while you're at it, it might be handy to be able to mute one side or the other temporarily because when you're setting up the second mic, it's not always easy to hear what's happening when you change settings.

Definitely the opposite of a pain, this feedback is tremendous.

It's just a question of getting the UI to fit nicely right now, but I'm fairly convinced the two mics need to be shown side-by-side. This makes the whole "stereo mode" toggle a bit redundant on the cab page, so I'm trying to suss out a good way to explain that visually. It might take another couple of tries to get it right.

I'm thinking of the mics having their own volume faders. This would be in lieu of the balance knob as it amounts to the same thing. Then you could turn one down to hear just the other.

So, the two mics definitely need to be side by side ;)
The stereo mode is how far apart they are - so if it goes, then you need a pan on each mic.
Also, you need some kind of control for the other stereo settings (drives , BMT) or maybe they'd just use the mic settings.

Vol and pan for each mic would be great though. ;)

Version 0.4.2 is out at last and is addressing all the issues that have crept up so far.

The biggest change is in the cab section where the speaker and cab left and right parameters are shown side-by-side.

There was also a small bug in the mic volume normalization and so there was another small level re-balance pass. The cab on/off levels should be closer, but any saved presets might be off by a couple dB. I'm also very keen to have this finalized (hopefully as of this patch).

There is now a proper mac installer (individual files still available for download for those who prefer that method, though they are now distributed as plain zip archives). The installer is notarized and so should run with no complaints on newer versions of macOS. I've also fixed an issue where the factory presets weren't being loaded on macOS.

The speaker "low" control has also been removed in anticipation of the "open" cab parameter which would have conflicted with it. It was adding fairly inaudible sub-lows in my opinion, but if someone really wants it back I could find a way.

If no more issues come up the next feature should hopefully be an effect pedal.

Thanks for all the feedback,

Garrin

This is much better!
The cab page looks good now. A pan on each mic panel would be a little more intuitive - but the stereo width is fine - and it automatically keeps L & R balanced. Then we have the bal control to isolate each speaker if we want - for setting up.
Well done!

One word of caution though. All my presets got screwed up - and I'm guessing this update did it, although I'm not sure. All the preamp drives were set to 3.5 and amp drive to 5. I can't be sure exactly when this happened though - but I was just playing with these a day or two ago and they were fine.
It's no big deal - but would be good to know if anyone else sees this - or if I just did something stupid (always likely - but there were too many presets changed, so I don't know.)

Hmm, I think I omitted the code to migrate presets from older versions. If you don't save over them I can put out a patch that will correctly migrate them (there were new parameter names introduced with the stereo functionality in 0.4.0).

I usually just copy the vst3 file, but today I ran the installer, as that's the only option.
I already fixed my presets - this is to be expected for beta versions ;)
When it happens after ver 1.0, *then* it gets annoying - esp after there are some saved Reaper projects that used the plugin.

That's why I'm still using "Swanky Amp Classic" for my projects ;)

I should've vetted that a bit more closely. This definitely won't happen after 1.0 because (as with Swanky Amp 1.0) the parameters will get fixed.

You can still grab the VST3 file directly (it's now a text link below the buttons). I could make that stand out a bit more on the page, I just wanted to ensure people who aren't so technically savvy don't get presented with a slew of buttons. I should also note that the installer just copies the VST3 (the presets are handled purely by the actual plug-in once running, not the installer).

But I get that installers are these mysterious black boxes (unless you're the one who write it xD) and for that reason I too prefer to just copy the file directly (hence why that option is available on the download page).

Of course it won't happen after ver 1.0 - I was just sayin... ;)
And if it happens in beta - no big deal.

I'll look closer for th evst3 file next time - it's not a big deal though. ;)

Things are progressing! Thanks for the prompt. It's been a bit slow lately as I've been working through some details on the pedals. I wasn't entirely happy with the current implementation of the various circuit components that make up the bulk of guitar pedals as the shortcomings were rather evident in for fuzz circuits. I'm trying to wrap up that work now and get an update out by the end of next week.

Thanks for the update. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to it.

I just got this new plugin and loaded it in Reaper. It looks great on a 4k laptop screen with 250% Windows scaling already out of the box, and the GUI size can be adjusted even further. One little bug I noticed is that the preset selection list doesn't actually scale, so I need a microscope to choose a preset. Is this a Reaper or a plugin problem?
