I do these kind of self-imposing limitations all the time. I think they boost my creative process a lot. I have lots of VSTs and the endless options means I will always be using the wrong plugin because there's one I can't remember at the time that would be a best fit.

The "era emulation" is something I like too. Late 90s and early 00s, in my case.
