Damn, Mattias, this is great! I'm starting to have difficulties choosing DAW between Studio One v4 and Reason 10 nowadays. Just some CPU optimizations (better thread handling (more cores)) and a few other enhancements, and Reason will be my primary DAW instead of Studio One.
Are you taking visitors at Propellerhead HQ btw?

Thanks! We let in visitors now and then, but most of the times there are too many secret things laying around so most often not.starflakeprj wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:09 pm Damn, Mattias, this is great! Yeah, if you know your harmony and know how to develop melodies you can make great use of this kind of program but it can also be a crutch for "producers" that don't have the discipline to learn music.Trancit wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 2:18 pmIt shall not make my melodies, it shall give me ideas...Danilo Villanova wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 2:01 pm But people, seriously, you need a damn piece of code to tell you which melodies to write? Use your damn imagination (if you have one) and come up with your own music! Learn piano!

There are a few Stockholm based companies I have always been wanting to visit, Propellerhead is one of them, as well as ILP (Important Looking Pirates) and DICE. And also the Uppsala based Starbreeze

I don´t know if it has to do with learning music...Danilo Villanova wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:31 pm Yeah, if you know your harmony and know how to develop melodies you can make great use of this kind of program but it can also be a crutch for "producers" that don't have the discipline to learn music.
Let´s face it: modern music doesn´t have any melodies, which are hard to create or having the need of great knowledge of music theory...
They are mostly little happy accidents of plunking around on the keyboard respectfully shifting the chord notes around in the PR Editor till you got, what you like...
Nothing else does such a plugin... so actually there is no big difference other than saving tons of time and effort...
I could understand every producer using such a tool for the basics and making little rythmic or tonal tweaks here and there to add more individuality...
Important is not how a final product is done... important is that it sounds good...

Thta's the point, it doesn't sound good. The whole of the musical landscape doesn't sound good when the music is coming from the same chord/melody writing sofwate. It all sounds the same. You can add some rhythmic variation here and there, add some more chaos to the mix, but the end result is purposeless and bland. It's directionless composition, with no real development. It's lacking.Trancit wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:48 pmI don´t know if it has to do with learning music...Danilo Villanova wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:31 pm Yeah, if you know your harmony and know how to develop melodies you can make great use of this kind of program but it can also be a crutch for "producers" that don't have the discipline to learn music.

Just because that's what everybody else is doing it doesn't mean that it's the way to go, at least not for myself. Cheers.

I am pretty sure, that with a little bit tweaking of the basics created by i.e. melody sauce, you won´t hear any difference between that and a "handcrafted melody"...
And that music has gone the more and more the simple way compared to i.e. classic is simply caused by being more influenced by sounds and sound effects...
Mixing heavy modulated sounds (which got tonal changes already built in) with a very complex melody with lots of tonal changes ends up in a not so pleasant chaos... our brain doesn´t know anymore what to listen to... the complex sound or the complex tonal changes...
On the other hand, listening to an edm melody played on a piano only without everything else is of course much to boring...
So, I wouldn´t take such plugins for writing classic or acoustic piano lines... but for anything electronic and with a bit tweaking, they are doing the job as fine as you could ...

There is nothing to envy with props adding more tiny third party devices for their outdated non re-scalable rack which was designed for 800x600 / 1024x768 era of resolutions.

You do have a scaling setting in Windows, right? Reason follows that and it looks fine then. Here's a video to prove that, where I tried to showcase the device driving four instrument track along a chord progression:THE INTRANCER wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 8:15 pm There is nothing to envy with props adding more tiny third party devices for their outdated non re-scalable rack which was designed for 800x600 / 1024x768 era of resolutions.

Scaling in Windows is hardly a solution. It's only the rack units you want to be able to scale, not the rest of the GUI. For the rest of Reason you want to take advantage of higher resolutions to see more of the mixer and more of the sequencer.

I don’t understand the criticism of this player. It’s a fun toy to come up with little melodic or rhythmic riffs. Let it inspire you, and play in your melodies and harmonies around it. Or don’t. It doesn’t have to be the right too for everyone. It looks fun to me!

Is there a way to export the midi? I really want to reword this to my perfourmer and use it in live as I’m hand over foot within reason? Any ideas?
