For those who dislike BIAB or even the idea of it, this post is not for you, let's not debate its merits here.

For the rest -- the looooong-delayed 64 bit version is here.

I've never used BIAB as a whole song "generator" -- that's like playing a jukebox.

But I do import an existing midi or wav chord progression into BIAB, and then audition individual accompaniment instrument tracks it generates. It's hit and miss, but, for me anyway, some of the hits are amazing.

One of my main frustrations with the program has been its 32-bit only spec, meaning I struggled to route its midi tracks through more than a handful of RAM-hungry Kontakt libraries. As I result I mainly used its audio "RealTracks" (some of which are great).

No more!

This will be my main indulgent purchase this year.

YMMV etc.

Update: word over at the BIAB forum has it that the 64 bit version is not ready for prime time (lots of bugs etc). They usually fix bugs pretty fast but I'd be cautious about pulling the trigger just yet.

Update: Seems increasingly that neither the 64 bit version nor the VST are ready for prime time; there is an unsually high amount of grumbling from the normally patient and forgiving fan base on the forum.

Every year they release a new version in December; the first 1-3 weeks it's bug city, with several updates; after which only maybe 10% of the bugs remain, of which maybe all but 3-5% get ironed out by sometime in February. This time it seems like they stumbled a lot more than usual, and it remains to be seen how well the 64-bit version will recover.

The president of the company is not helping those of us for whom annual upgrades are usually easy to justify, and who have been waiting for 64-bit for a long time, but are now pensive, by posting on the forum a rather broad, leaky dismissal, which notes how many people are happy with the release, apparently oblivious to many surrounding posts about different bugs. Caveat emptor

This is their sale time of year, so if you plan to purchase a package, this would be the time to do it for a discount.

That's just the thing -- it's a gamble that they will have fixed this by the end of the intro pricing (I think 31 December) + the 1 month money back guarantee period. If this is their maiden voyage with 64 bit, I'm not so sure ... I'd rather not have it than have it buggy.

I think you also receive the 32 bit version together with the 64 bit.

Post

You do. For me, it's the 64 bit-ness which is the reason to upgrade.

Does anyone know if bandora can do the same thing OP is talking about? https://bandora.com/

First glance Bandora less capable. Manual is available here
