So, what I previewed in another post is already happening. Windows users are being asked to pay for the work done to support the new Applçe Silicon. It's about time we get different prices. Apple users have to start to pay for Apple Sh*t, not Windows users.
While my immediate reaction was similar, it's not that simple in the long run. 2 reasons:

1) PCs will adopt the ARM architecture sooner or later, too. So it's not like this work is in vain - even if you stay away from Apple products, you'll be using ARM computer hardware eventually.

2) Multiplatform software having to add one more version to the dev environment - apple silicon in this case - means you need to rethink the frameworks you're using, the abstraction levels you're coding on, the tools you're leveraging to compile & deploy stuff. For DAWs that have been on the market for 10+ years this might be disruptive & painfull, but in the long run having to review and perhaps rewrite chunks of code will help everyone, as a more modern & nimble code base will help iterating new features and ideas quicker. There's an interview with U-He's Urs where he said explicitly that doing M1 versions of their plugins benefitted everyone (in terms of CPU efficiency) because they had to dig deep and finally rewrite the parts of the code they were afraid to - or couldn't find the time to - touch before.

Just went to the net to see if I could get any info on how long RS still support earlier versions with updates while moving forward with new versions. Could not find any immediately. Does anyone know?

From experience since v6: they usually don’t. With release of the latest version, the previous versions remain „as is“, including known bugs which might be fixed only in the latest version. One notable exception: they released a 10.4.1 version on Mac for macOS Catalina compatibility. That was quite unexpected.

Almost no DAW updates previous version once the new one is out. I saw some very minor updates by Ableton, Bitwig & Cubase for previous version, but that was only few weeks in the new version, so they were just tying up some loose ends (e.g. a bug in Bitwig that was force closing the project if you lost internet connection).

I'd say you shouldn't count on that.

So no VST3 support in 11 should be expected if it reaches 12?

Ooookay. That means lesser targets for GAS in the future. Can't be the bad when you feel you got 75% more than needed already.

Yes. Frankly, I don't even have my VST paths sets in Reason. I've enough between the native stuff and well over EUR1k of REs I bought over the years.

Depending on your needs that won't get you very far though...

True, but that's truism :P

Apparently it covers my needs.
Otherwise I wouldn't constrain myself like that :)

Obviously.

When I used the word "you", I certainly did not mean you personally though, but people in general.

1 year subscription to R+ is currently 50% off on Plugin Boutique.

The Shop on Reason Studios page is now less hidden but it's now obscured as a little icon, rather than an obvious title like 'Shop' .
I've got no fear about them going sub only (as in, IMO that's highly unlikely) but it's pretty obvious which business model is being pushed hard.

oh boy Image Line is going to have an even bigger field day with their "FREE LIFETIME UPDATES!!" which... yeah... starting to see the appeal but they need better direct approches rather than every fking thing being a separate plugin even down to direct recording.

Really? I'd rather pay $200 every 2-3 years and use a DAW I love, rather than struggle and plow through endless pop-up windows and never ending drop-down menus of FL :)

I was mainly pointing out that they use it as a tagline in every video
