The shadow of Mount Dorian reminds me of Gormenghast.

It's all Gray.
Thanks - it’s good when someone paints me a picture...

Just keep it under wraps.

Interesting fact about where I live, or rather the river I live next to:

The James River cuts right through the Blue Ridge Mountains. I used to wonder how that was possible — rivers can't flow uphill, after all.

Turns out the river was there long before the mountains. As the Appalachian (or Alleghanian) Orogeny occurred due to continental plates crunching into each other, the mountains rose and crumpled. The river eroded the rising land faster than it was raised.

At their highest these mountains were comparable to the much younger Rockies. But they've eroded almost entirely away, leaving a valley where the topmost ridge used to be; the eastern edge is now the Blue Ridge and the western edge is the Appalachians. Elsewhere along the range they have other names.

All this happened well before what would become Africa and North America pulled apart, creating the Atlantic Ocean.

The James isn't the oldest river in Virginia, though. That honor belongs to… the New River.

Actually I was making a slightly obscure reference, connecting “Dorian” and “Gray” to painting a picture...

Irwin Rommel's son was the mayor of Stuttgart at some point. Yes, that Rommel.

The connection was intended, you spotted it well and truly. I was thinking that after Sibyl Vane kills herself, Dorian conceals his portrait — keeps it under wraps, so to speak. *grin*

The Little London area of Leeds where one resides was named thus, not because of the tower blocks, but because in the nineteenth century a lot of workers from the big London settled in the area to work in the new woollen industry.

I live in Delft

Some facts:

1: The Dutch royal family (well, the deceased part of it) is buried in a tomb underneath a church here.

2a: In 1997, Preznit Bill Clinton was a few kilometers away in The Hague for business, and on a whim decided to visit the tomb with the crown prince. Somehow the key to the tomb was misplaced, so they went to eat poffertjes next door until the key was found.
2b: I had band practice nearby that evening, and managed to convince the secret service guy blocking the way that it was OK for two scruffy-looking 20-something guys to walk towards the Preznit with guitar cases with undisclosed contents.

Seems to have been a fine fellow. Wikipedia describes his policies as "tolerant and liberal". I'll leave it there to avoid HPC.
