Tools recommendation for beginner in orchestral music?

Hi guys, a total beginner here.
Recently, I am interested in creating orchestral music like Two Steps from Hell, Thomas Bergersen (I think both are the same guy lol). So I searched for instrumental library like violin, piano, you know, orchestra instrument.
I saw some good sample library but that cost a lot and usually have a big size in disk. Soundfont are great, little in size but doesn't give me much control like adsr stuff. I am not yet found any good VST/plugin for this problem. Maybe I should search for presets perhaps?
Anyway, what would you recommend for little disk space but gave much control and also quite cheap? It's okay if it's a bit expensive, I could save some of my money.
Thanks before and have a nice day guys.

Versilian Chamber Orchestra has several versions: Free/Standard $99/Pro $229. I have the Pro, and the variety of instruments (solo/ensembles) and articulations is outstanding. Pro can run in Kontakt Player.

Thanks for the mention! Note that I recently redid the VST version to make it compatible with VST3 and to work better with Macs. It is also called the Sketching Orchestra now because of a mess with a company called VSCO. Its the same just different name.

Virtual Playing Orchestra seems like a nice amalgamation of the various free orchestral samples into a good sfz orchestra including VSCO2 and Sonatina.

Definitely get Sforzando to play SFZ libraries.

Nice free (or low cost donation) SFZ pianos

VST Buzz has some nice freebies including my VST version of the Sonatina Orchestra

Sonivox Orchestral Collection is a nice starting point. I've seen it on sale for $99.

That's going to be tough for cheap. Maybe an all-in-one package like Spitfire's Albion One or something from ProjectSAM would be best for you.Yolando wrote:Hi guys, a total beginner here.

Also, if you are a beginner, you might benefit from my e-book (if you'll pardon the sales pitch). It covers sample libraries in some detail. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Dig ... 079D75SPD/

I like The Orchestra which has only about 7GB but the engine is really good and versatile to get you started very fast. But it‘s not cheap at all sadly.
Even the whole Logic costs just the half and would cover you here very well now.
There is a update coming soon too.
It also can tax the cpu quite heavy.
So maybe you got already some to start with in your DAW of choice?
Also KVR isn‘t the best place for sample libraries

What about a 5 dollar goodie from Spitfire.
But full Kontakt is required:

No offense to fans, but just make sure to listen closely to the demos of The Orchestra before you jump in. It is cleverly scripted to create a very certain kind of soundtrack music, but the samples aren't that great judging by the demos.
I actually did a really low rent version with arps, chords, chord progressions and orchestral sections and first chairs for Kontakt. Obviously it can't do as much and is much less pretty, I'm just saying be careful about paying for the 'concept' instead of high quality sounds at those prices.

Trust me Berlin Inspire has top notch pro sounds for exactly the same price as the Orchestra's mid-tier samples.

Don't know where your limit is for "cheap", but Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 is worth a look.
Around £120 UK or 150?USD.

I just got IKs Total Studio Max for $300. If you can find it for that price I think that is a great starting kit for Orchestral and more. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... e-download
it's back up to normal price now but I am sure eventually it will come back down.

GPO is a great starting point! In fact I still use some of the instruments, specifically the woodwinds, in tandem with my bigger libraries.

You are going to need a lot more than orchestral instruments to make music like Two Steps from Hell.Yolando wrote:Hi guys, a total beginner here.

Keep Forest makes a great free sample pack with some excellent hits, risers, downers, drones, strikes, pulses, booms, etc. Really this is the stuff that separates cinematic from classical.
