I can't imagine that you'd get a new amp that pleases you, for more than a brief time, for $65. Which leaves you to searching for used practice amps in pawn shops and such.
OTOH, if you can stretch just a bit, Monoprice's 5W tube amp is on sale for $90 right now. It gets a lot of surprised love online.

For a starter amp in that price range I would look for a used Vox Pathfinder 10 or 15. Its a great practice amp. Another option to consider is using virtual amps. You may have some decent ones in your DAW already. Obviously this isn't ideal if you need it to be portable but a great option if your just playing at home. Virtual amps will also give you more flexibility to search for a tone that works for you. Then down the road if you decide you need an amp you'll have a better idea of what you are looking for.
