Hi,
Apologies if you have kept a strict policy regarding OT stuff. I just liked to ask fellow Lunarians (sounds better than Lunatics... ) if somebody would know of a free way to get sample CDs utilised in Luna. From earlier days (Emu sampler and Logic softsampler) I have some sample CDs in Akai and Emu format, that I currently can't use.
I know of ChickenSys Translator and CDExtract, but since I don't think I'll ever buy another sample CD, I'm hesitant to pay for conversion software. At least until I tried any potential alternative.
I was planning on using discoDSP Highlife sampler for playback, but it doesn't read from proprietary discs... Any tips?
TIA,
grizzly

There's a tool on the rgc:audio site to convert AKAI to SFZ:
http://www.rgcaudio.com/downloads/freeware/ -> Akp2Sfz.zip

Thanks for the tip! Alas, it seems to convert files already on your HD, not from an Akai disc.pljones wrote:There's a tool on the rgc:audio site to convert AKAI to SFZ:

I thought AKAI cds were just FAT formatted ISO disks? Maybe something like ISO Buster?
The AKAI Tools (needs PERL and SOX -- so typically, Linux!) are here: http://web.archive.org/web/200405060003 ... index.html
(Isn't the Web Archive terribly useful? )

@mahtazz and pljones,
Thank you for your input, and sorry for not responding earlier. I think I now have solved the problem, thanks to you and some luck with new stuff.
Apparently Chickensys has released a Translator Free edition, which so far seems to be enough for my needs. It manages at least to read an Akai (S1000 I guess) disc and convert it to S5000 to the hard disk, from where HighLife can read it.
In some cases the samples don't work immediately. I tried both the akp2sfz conversion and running the samples through a batch re-saving process in Wavosaur, both of which methods seem to work.
thnx!
