I assume that's on Mac, right?
It seems that some devices are reporting to have no audio outputs.
In that case MuLab cannot run, it needs at least 1 audio output.

Just a double-check:
When you have selected your usb headphone in MuLab right-click the cpu meter (in the transport panel, right to the metronome) -> audio engine stats. I assume it says Num Outputs = 0, right?

Well that's the very issue then. MuLab asks the headphone driver how many outputs it has and the headphone driver answer is 0. Weird.

Try creating an Aggregate Device:
