Dear Mutools,

I was wondering if there are plans to make Mulab / Mutools V9 4K/Retina ready.
I downloaded and installed Mulab V8 demo and the GUI doesn't look really sharp
on my Dell monitor, connected to a mac mini 2018.

Kind Regards !

MuLab 8 already is high-resolution capable. Which version are you using?

I am using Mulab v 8.7.6, on OSX Big Sur 11.3 beta 8
The OSX info window for Mulab shows that "open in low resolution" is disabled.
(sidenote: it says version 8.6, while i have 8.7.6 installed)

Intel Macmini 2018
Dell Monitor connected, set to non-scaled in OSX prefs > Display

I double-checked M8.7.6 and it does properly contain

Code: Select all

<key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key><true/>
in its info.plist which indicates it is hi-res ready.
Users reported that this indeed fixed the blurring issue, see
viewtopic.php?f=79&t=544383&start=15&hilit=retina
It was added to M8.6.9, see http://www.mutools.com/mulab-mux-change-log.html
I don't know why you experience issues. Anyone else experiencing related issues on Mac?

NB: I'll fix the version mismatch. Note that the version shown in MuLab always is the right one. Sometimes i forget to also manually update the version in the mac specific file (info.plist).

Thx for your support.

I checked the info.plist file here, just to be sure, it says indeed:
<key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key><true/>

Dropping Mulab 8.7.6 on Retinizer pops up a message saying that Mulab is already retina ready.

My Dell monitor is capable of 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 - Ultra High Definition)
But it displays 1920 x 1080 @ 60.00Hz, as said: no scaling set in OSX prefs > Displays.

I work with other DAW's like Reaper and latest version of NI Maschine (both retina ready) and their GUI look very sharp.

Please check the display res that is given to MuLab:

* Start MuLab
* MULAB menu -> Tools -> Command Line
* Enter "show log"
* The screen info will be somewhere at the start

Alternatively you could also view the log file while MuLab is open using your system text viewer. The log file is in your MuLab/User/LogFiles sub-folder.

Which screen res is given to MuLab?
Is it as expected?

The relevant line says: Screen 1 = 0,25,1920,1050
I don't know if these are correct values .. (?)

If your actual screen size is 3840 x 2160 but MacOS tells MuLab that it only is 1920 x 1050 then i guess MacOS will apply some stretching to it which will cause the blurry graphics you see. So question then is: Why does MacOS tell MuLab the screen only is 1920 x 1050?

In OSX Prefs > Displays, the default resolution for my Dell monitor is stated as 1920x1080 (60hz).
I don't know why it doesn't state 3840x2160 as default, but i don't wanna use this resolution anyway;
1920x1080 is just fine for me.
And i guess Mulab takes over this resolution from OSX.

Question remains then why all my other DAW's at 1920x1080 look really sharp and Mulab is not.
I am mainly speaking about blurry text elements in Mulab, in my other DAW's all text elements are really sharp.

Windows and Mac both have desktop scaling of their own, and they expect applications to ask for the scale factor from the OS/Shell.

Are there here any Mulab users on OSX , who do have sharp texts in Mulab's GUI ?

If so: Which OSX, Mulab version and Apple computer you use ?

Here a screenshot of a piece of Mulab's GUI on my system, see the fuzzy texts ??

Make sure your display scaling is set to 1x/native resolution. This will make MacOS report the native resolution to Mulab. Then, in Mulab settings, you can manually set the scale.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's what works until Mulab has hooks into the desktop scale factor of MacOS and Windows.

Thx for your help.

So i installed easyresapp and tried different scalings with this app.
The outcome is that the blurry texts in Mulab stay blurry, no improvement.

Did you set the scale factor in Mulab settings? You have to do this manually.
