Hi
Regarding melody (or accompaniment), is there a musical term for a series of notes of the same duration, like:
• A series of 8th notes
• A series of 16th notes
• A series of doted 8th and 16th note
• A series of Triplets
The intervals from note to note can be anything from repeated pitches to an interval of any size.
This type of melody is very common in Classical music, Swing Jazz and Bebop Jazz.
Here are some examples:
• In Western Baroque and Classical music. There are many examples:
• Bach - 2 part inventions
• Bach - Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (Triplets)
• Vivaldi - The Seasons
• Chopin - Fantaisie Impromptu
• Jazz
• Woody Herman - Four Brothers
• Charlie Parker - Ornithology
• Pop music
• Proud Mary (verse)
• Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani (triplet figure in prechorus)
• Yesterday - The Beatles (2nd and 3rd phrases in verse)
Some possibilities I thought of might be: Running 8th notes or running 16th notes? I thought there might be a more standardized term for this.
Thank You
