I'm using Bittorrent, my firewall is off, I did not find any other firewall in my modem's property.

Are you using a dial-up or USB modem, or a broadband router? If the latter, to configure it you usually have to use a web browser pointed at something like http://192.168.1.1 to access the routers configuration settings. You may need to play with port forwarding too on 6881, depending on how you are set up.

Incidentally, watching the torrent, someone from xxx.xxx.xxx.74 kept connecting every 30 seconds or so, and disappearing. If that was you, then it's a classic case of not being able to initiate traffic due to 6881 being blocked or not forwarded by your router/firewall.

Yeah, 280 meg uploaded here as well, and at least 6 different people...

You might have that port filtered on your router as well, if you're on broadband (most routers have an inbuilt firewall in addition to the one running on your computer).

So make sure you allow that port through in your router's firewal too...

Torrents may not be rocket science, but undoubtedbly trickyer than simple downloads for dummies like me....

Sorry to repeat, but do you happen to have Peerguardian running? Or some other blockilist kind of program?

That's what I said ...
I'm probably not smart enough for that kind of stuff : I never heard of Peerguardian, am unable to find if my router (what is it, the modem ?) has some special protection device on its own.
All I know is that I never installed any kind of Norton, Kaspersky, etc... on this PC. I tried that in the beginnings, on my 1st PC, just to find that those softs slow down the machine, play tricks with other programs, do not really protect (I had got infected anyway once...), sometimes cause BSODs, and are pricy.
(Instead, I make ghost images so that I can restore if someday things go bad.)
So my PC is is in a very "light" state protectionwise. And now that XP firewall is off as well, I really am at a loss about what else to do.
BTW, is it nomral that Bittorrent says nothing, like "unable to connect with the source", or "a firewall prevents from downloading the target", or.... ??

That's because of the things I keep mentioning in my post (your router is blocking the necessary ports that the torrent protocol 'talks' over).

I'm glad we got this working again The tracker it's on won't go down, that's for sure. It's hosted on one of the biggest audio sites (codec, players and whatnot) around (www.hydrogenaudio.org). I do hope the impulses are legal, since I wouldn't want my friends who run that place to get in any trouble

Yes, YouSendit links only last for a limited period of time. Seems lots of people took advantage of it. The torrent is still being seeded though...

Sorry guys, I have to have a few days break on the torrenting. Modem goes peanuts when using torrent, and gf needs the internet during the few coming days quite much... Will be back seeding on wednesday.
