hi id really like to get some more glitchy/ sort of tunes. currently i have the latest autechre cd "untilted" and i am pretty impressed with that but was more interested in finding something a bit more funky, consistent, upbeat. thanks!! :p

Post

Consistency is not part or glitch theory, sorry.

Check out some better Autechre albums:

LP5
Incunabula
Tri Repetae ++

Plaid (a band) is a bit easier, maybe try that as well.

hi thanks for the recommendations what i meant was something a little bit more overt than autechre. i have been checking out some alt. electronica gigs recently and have heard a lot of djs play some very glitched out beats but also with a distinctive melodic and bass part which makes for much more danceable, "consistent" feel. any artists u know that sort of fit that description?

Post

im looking at the plaid entry on wikipedia they seem pretty interesting what would u consider their best release?

Post

Spokes or Double Figure, maybe the latter but they are both ok.

Thinner and Instabil (net labels) have some 4/4 dancefloor stuff that uses glitchy elements to spice up dubby techno beats. Have a listen, there's anyway great free music that I also consider quite cutting edge and "underground".

"Funkstörung (German for "transmission interference", sometimes also spelt Funkstorung[1]) is Christian de Luca and Michael Fakesch, a duo of IDM musicians (producers) hailing from Rosenheim, Germany. They are known for rhythmically complex but melody driven music, similar to the late 1990s work of Autechre, although their latest work incorporates elements of hip hop as well as pop music."

this sounds like what i am looking for sort of, minus the hip hop

"not for threes", definately their best release (although not necessarily the most glitchy) - a completely amazing album.

also try,

lemodie - ochre
chris clark - empty the bones of you
anything by autechre, the most melodic being incunabula and amber
telefon tel aviv - farenheit fair enough
boom bip - circle
murcof - ulyssess
boc - geogaddi

while not being the most glitch albums ever they do mix it very well with more melodic and consistent elements.

for more unusual but still glitchy stuff look four tet (glitchy beats with folky samples, best album being rounds) or mum (like a cross between glitch, sigur ros and bjork)

have fun.

steve.

Good recommendations - you could also try minimal techno stuff which has glitchy elements like Ricardo Villalobos - he's pretty dancy. Check out the Kompakt and Perlon labels for that. Also you might like the Bpitch Control label - check out the new Ellen Allien/Apparat album "Orchestra of Bubbles".

thanks for the suggestions will try to listen to as many of these titles as i can they all look v interesting especially four tet!

Future Music Mag hag just introduced me to Leafcutter John - check out his Myspace - there's some real gems there.

U-Ziq does some good glitchy ish stuff with strong melodies. You can mad dance to it. Albums to check for his more glitchy stuff would be Lunatic Harness and Billious Paths.

I'm always surprised that Oval (or more to the point, Markus Popp) don't get mentioned more often - I remember they were at the forefront of the whole glitch thing with "Systemish"...

Akufen, Anna Kaufen or the Rip off Artist. It's all the same.
Check the latest album from Pansonic and Alan Vega too.

I'm not really tuned in to genres much, so I may be off base with this suggestion, but how about Mouse on Mars. I really dig a lot of their stuff and some of it sounds very glitchy to me.
