edit: I posted a really rough thing on page two in response to the guitar sound advice...

Just another doom metal idea that's getting some attention here...I have a clean vocal part for the down-shift at the end but I'm not confident enough with it to record it yet. Still needs two more parts to make a journey out of this one. It's basically a how-much-can-I-squeeze-out-of-one-idea thing at the moment. I like the snare, and don't like the kick when it's naked. Still sounds programmed and stiff to me. But I'll get to the details later.

Much better than the thread title :D

If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

I can try to stand in on doom metal vocal duties if you'd like, Shane.

I need to bone up on my Rob Lowe of Solitude Aeturnus imitation before their first album in 8 years is finally released!

Another doomster here! Although I'm into different types, not certainly death/doom.. But it's great to see someone into slow&heavy.. Some nice ideas in your track, but I feel it lacks something.. You're right about the drums, especially kick.. Sounds too machine-like.. But I find the ending pretty good.. Bye, stay doomed..

Post

interesting to hear this from you Shane.. me likes

those guitars need some extra grunt though, some lower belly rumble
It will make a nicer contrast.. you could double them with some distorted bass gurgles from hell
My other host is Bruce Forsyth

Yeah, quite a few people are talking about it on another forum. I'm looking forward to it as well.

What kind of vocal style do you do? Beauty or beast?

Yes, it is only a sketch and hopefully will get heavier and more worked out as I continue to experiment. I know I can fix the drums, but I try to avoid those details until the form is more nailed down.

Do you have some doom to hear? If so, please post it.

I'm actually quite happy with the guitar sound. I realize it isn't as distorted as some people like, but I've always found heaviness in more of a Sabbath type sound. Though I love Evoken and the wall-o-sound that they use.

Once I really get going on this project, I'm sure there'll be some of that, too. It's all a lot of miserable goodness.

I think they are just too clean, too computer-recording-ish.. the typical death metal grunt guitar sound would be too unoriginal but a peculiar type of darkness or weirdness added to their sound would give the track a lot more impact

I played progressive trash metal and death metal for years damn it.. I'm a f**king expert :tantrum:

hehe. I'll keep experimenting. It's definitely not my goal to be a pussy. At lunch I looked at a few amps in a small shop here. If I had an extra $2k, problem solved.

What are you using for amplification? I'm able to get perfect death/sludge/destruction out of my Line 6 Pod XT.
