Given that this is only a 128kbps mp3, how do the heavy guitars sound in this? What do you think of this kind of approach to rock music? For me, this is kind of what I'm wanting to do for the summer, a sort of doom-zeppelin thing to continue on with my HAMMER[SCAPE] project.

It's kinda sloppy in spots with the cleaner guitar parts, but I'm just in a writing phase, so not too much time spent on practicing things to death or doing takes over. Eventually there will be vocals, too, so the repetition has a purpose.

You'll have to crank it to get the highs back, the encoding just muffles stuff, imo.

edit: allright you losers. I upped it to 256kbps.

The guitars are beautiful.
f**king awesome.
Seriously.

mmmh... I think they are ok, aggressive enough and not invading the bass range...
They are neutral in the mid (critical) range, not too bass-heavy not too hi-frigging (fuzzy)
Anyway I'm not an expert ...

Personally I like the sound a lot, sounds great 8)

Thanks for listening and reporting back. I'm glad to hear the guitars are sounding OK. It's a Boss GT-8 unit on everything, so I'm fairly pleased to not have to spend any more cash. I've had this thing a while and mostly use it just for the tuner and S/PDIF out. But since virtual amps are too CPU heavy to use for lots of different guitar tracks, I'm just doing what I should have done a long time ago and recording the freakin' sound that I dial in while writing rather than pretending I'm going to do all this re-amping later (which I never do).

It's almost a revelation to realize how long I've acted like I was going to do all these dry parts and tweak out the guitar afterwards. But the fact of the matter is that I just can't work that way. It's too long of a process, too frustrating to not be hearing the actual tone/sound that will be the final, and I like to just get things recorded and move on anyway.

Sounds pretty good! Nice warm sound.. maybe you could remove a few of those hum frequencies thoough. I like the idea for the tune, even though it seems it needs one or 2 more elements to keep things interesting.. but that's just my opinion ;) Great stuff!

I think it's got some great atmosphere in the slower parts Shane and I think the guitar sounds throughout are quite good (though not my personal faves, and not Zep to me). I wasn't super crazy about the faster part with the big riff but would love to hear the slower parts expanded.

Sounds good, IMHO.. Although my ears aren't very precise

Nice idea, but it surely lacks something.. And maybe not only vocals.

Anyway, I wish you good luck in writing&recoding. Maybe I'll bother you someday and ask for some advices.. Doomsters should stick together :D

Edit: It may be just me, but I would suggest even heavier and more aggressive sound in the louder parts. It would increase the contrast which I am a fan of..
