The ASIO latency is too small for the freeverb3, perhapsBennett wrote:Hmmm... that's a shame. Couldn't begin to guess why it behaves like that.sinkmusic wrote:mmmh
It causes Reaper to hang for nearly a minute, then it uses about 40%cpu with a lot of crackles...
I'll stick to native reverbs or SIr i guess.
FWIW, I use it in 0 latency mode as send effect in eXT 1.4.1, T2, and FL7 as those hosts don't have PDC for sends. I just tried a "stresstest" in eXT and T2 and I can definitely load more fv3impulse (as inserts) than other convolvers, even at 0 latency. I used an RMX drumloop along with the 1800 seat auditorium, omni, center, front impulse (FYI, found at Noisevault).
FreeVerb3 - new version 2 now available!

From the release SF notes:Bennett wrote:Yes, I agree that the multiple versions are a bit confusing. The multiple versions are nice though in that they have been compiled with performance optimizations for various CPU's.sinkmusic wrote:... pfiou

5 versions, no explanation for the user about which one to choose... are we all supposed to have passed web/computer dev highschool classes ?
AFAIK...
The 3DNOW version is for older AMD processors, K6, K7, etc.
The SSE is for older Intel, but also works well on newer Intel/AMD K8.
The SSE2 is for newer Intel, AMD K8, etc.
The x87 is not optimized for a particular architecture.
I've been using the SSE fast single-precision for real-time use, but I imagine the SSE2 slow double-precision is more accurate at the cost of CPU cycles.
Sourceforge wrote: fast: single precision, suitable for realtime operation.
slow: double precision, 2x slower than the fast version.
SIMD optimized versions
x87: all CPUs
SSE: PentiumIII..., AthlonXP, ...
3DNow!: K6-2, Athlon, ...
SSE2: Pentium4, ..., Opteron, Athlon64, ...

In FL7 no problems with the impulse verb and no crackles at all. 40% CPU with long (I mean 3 seconds and more) impulses is 'normal' I think, no?sinkmusic wrote:mmmh

I have an "old" P4 and have dled the SSE version.
40% for a reverb is way too much for me (and my cpu), and the nasty crackles are sadly not optionnal
cheers

I have an old Athlon 600 Mhz and a IR reverb handling a 3.5 sec. IR file with 40% CPU is quite admirable.sinkmusic wrote:I have an "old" P4 and have dled the SSE version.

Crackles are no good for everyone, I agree.
But, hey, are those tools not created for specs beyond the ones we use anyway, I mean for systems caming after old P4s and Athlons?

On a P4@2.6ghz, it is not so much admirable...

Maybe also that those who can afford a colossus computer (or change their comptuer each year) also can affor SIR2 or Pristine Space, or WizzoVerb ?

Hm, maybe there's something wrong with your (ASIO) settings? Tried in other hosts?sinkmusic wrote:Ah ah, yes.Vibro Larynx wrote:I have an old Athlon 600 Mhz and a IR reverb handling a 3.5 sec. IR file with 40% CPU is quite admirable.![]()

Freeverb3_vst 2.0.1 was released.
The new version contains some bug fixes and multiThread options for the convolution reverb.

getting really confused...
which vst version should i download???
- freeverb3_vst-fast-3DNOW-singleprecision-win-2.0.1.zip
- freeverb3_vst-fast-SSE-singleprecision-win-2.0.1.zip
- freeverb3_vst-fast-x87-singleprecision-win-2.0.1.zip
- freeverb3_vst-slow-SSE2-doubleprecision-win-2.0.1.zip

ahhh okay i might try the "x87" version then.

unless you have an old CPU, which doesn't support SSE. Alternatively, you could get the doubleprecision SSE2 version. That one uses a lot of CPU, tho.

The new freeverb3 seems quite stable now! Sounds good too.
Not sure about this WindCompressor thing; sounded nasty and harsh to me when I used it, kind of a hard-to-follow GUI as well. I guess it's a multiband compressor?

Palomino core K7s onward all have SSE (all Athlon XP processors onward)
All Pentium III onward have SSE support
Unless one is using a reallyyy old computer (such as a Pentium II) then your best bet is to at least use the SSE version. IF it doesn't work, the plugin wont load or at worst will crash itself.. no biggy.. just drop down to a lesser version of the plugin.
If you have an Athlon64 or Pentium 4 processor.. then you can technically go with the SSE2 version (although it will probably still recommend the SSE version instead for normal use)
