I've worked on this all day really, and now have no perspective at all. I hope the guitars don't sound brittle. My ears are fried from mixing it.

sounds tight here. maybe too much verb on them drums, but maybe I am just used to dry club styles.. anyways, the bass is FAT. Your feeding your bass McDonalds.
:ud:

I think the solos and leads here just sound awesome. Not brittle. So what is a guy like you doing? Running the guitar through Reaktor? Using Guitar Rig? Something else? Was this a software disto? Sounded really good to me. USually I am not liking software disto on guitar, So, what did you do? Mic and amp?

This was pretty tight sounding mate. I had good fun. Thanks

Yeah! Very nice. Needs a mid 8 and some more length. It ended too soon. Thanks for sharing.

Nice rocktabulous instrumental. The well timed bass is the sweet element in this for me, though the guitars are cool. No vocals on this? Seems open to a wide range of vocal styles (in a higher range, me thinks, so maybe female vocals would fit in the pocket better).
Thanks for sharing, Shane.

Thanks for the time in listening and for the constructive comments. I'll probably redo the drums--at least enough to improve them here and there programming wise, and I agree totally about it needing a bridge. I truly suck at writing bridges (and choruses). Always have. Riffs/hooks and texture are my big thing. Hopefully something good will occur to me.

It seems like every time I make a guitar oriented track it spurs a strong temporary desire to start a band, but then I remember what a hassle it is to do all that, especially at my age (40). lol. When writing this sort of thing, I always have the notion in the back of my mind that someone else might contribute (vocals, leads, etc.) and it probably affects how much work I put into it during the initial demo phase. There's always this sense that if I really finish it, then I'll deprive someone else of the opportunity for the emotional investment it takes to really 'add' to a track. Hard to describe that sense, but I think y'all understand.

I suppose I'll probably always be one of those dudes making little tracks that sort of represent an afternoon of inspiration versus those that have the fortitude to fight for their ideas in a collaborative and 'loud' setting. I used to really enjoy doing the band rehearsal thing, but these days it would mean an actual disorienting lifestyle shift to attempt it. We'll see.

As for the gear questions, it's my Ibanez ARC300 (a cool $400 guitar that I spiced up with Duncan jazz humbucker pups) being used with custom amps in Amplitube 2--double-tracked the rhythm part with a third overdub for the big accent thickening. I printed the fx and amps wet. I figured, here's the idea, it sounds fine, let's print it and save CPU for the synth parts and whatnot. I find I always have to make amps for every guitar I use to get things fine tuned enough to use and to fake myself out. Someone else could plug into the same settings and sound like crap.

Used FL Studio's FPC for the initial drum parts using some of those cool downtempo midi files. Then I built some more deliberate things around those. I like FPC for that, it's inspirational and quick. And not a bad sounding little kit, either, for rock.
