I think one problem is:
- unwanted side-effects hardly can be defined as "artistic" in mastering...

Learn what mastering is FIRST before asking for mastering plugins. Then it doesn't matter anymore what you use. Else, ask one of us engineers to do that job - this is why we are there for after all.mark_h_elektrasoul wrote:im new (and lazy, lol) on the mastering front <snip>

Get stuff that has range to learn on. If the range is limited, either it'll sound right or if you prefer to hear more of an effect, you'd never know.

These: http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/
But this link ( http://www.landoleet.org/reaplugs.zip ) contains the ReaPlugs as well as JesuSonic FX in VST format.
For the longest time, these JS effects were only available in REAPER. But last December, Cockos made a VST version so the JS plugs could be used in other hosts (I've seen screenshots of them in Samplitude and Cubase).
Alot of these JS effects were created by LOSER, Stillwell, and Schwa.
The Stillwell stuff rivals their payware... There's even JS versions of Major Tom, Event Horizon, and BadBussMojo. They're the cats pajamas. And they are rapidly becoming all I use.

The problem started when "mastering" plug-ins showed up and anyone decided they could master their songs. They might not know what it means, but they're doing it.Compyfox wrote:Learn what mastering is FIRST before asking for mastering plugins. Then it doesn't matter anymore what you use. And they're doing it wrong 99% of the time.

Yeah, and let me not only do your mastering but also your mixing. And your recording. Should I play the guitars for you? Arrange your song? Program your synths? No prob. There are always specialists for that.
Seriously, this is poor advertisement. But let the mastering snobs rule another thread. Make my day.
