1. downloads are roughly 1-2GB depending if it is stereo or multitrack kit
2. use download manager (Orbit does the job and it's free) - to resume dl sessions and speed up the dl process
3. wait few days/weeks to let people dl first than you will get a descent transfer

If you are still worried and want to "work around it". I can download the stuff for you and send to Spain on dvds for free.

fcuk :!: thanks

i will take the advice for all steps 1-3 before 'copping out'.....

i can probably get enough wifi time to get kit a day, unless of course the internet situation is no problem

i have never used a d'load manager...i'll look into it...hopefully osx, or i'll look for something similar

i will definitely explore all avenues before taking you up on the offer...although i wouldn't feel comfortable unless i , at least, cover the cost of the dvd's and postage (and a little cherry on top)...the offer is kind enough

let's see how this works out :D

thanks again

Why not make the downloads available now at this (lowest) pricepoint?

The stuff isn't ready yet. It will be ready by December 30. Somewhere back there Squids talked about it.

I am interested in this. I have a mostly self-made eDrum Kit (very old Roland PM-16, various bits from roland, yamaha , ddrum and plastic cymbals with piezo triggers)

All in all I am quite satisfied (I am not a great drummer, just learning) but what really sucks is my hi-hat.
I would also like to buy a new one with some more detailed velocities and open/closed/pedal sounds.

Which model would you recommend?

Well, first we weren't expecting it to hit $99 so quick! That's a good thing. But, we're still waiting for the Infinite-encoded OWD material to come back from NI and then we can apply the new scripts with all the V-Drummy features to it and tweak it. In the meantime I am going through the Drum Masters 2 kits in this and doing some fine tuning of the kits per mapping format so they are optimized depending on whether you are playing from the keyboard or e-Drums. The cool thing about the new scripts is you can actually switch mappings on the fly and KEEP all the mix settings you made! That's convenient if you had an iMap kit and you decided you wanted to use it in GM but didn't want to have to dial in all the settings again. BUT, as starting points there are different things we can do under the hood (such as combining ghost notes of the snare into the bottom velocities of the snare for e-Drummers - otherwise those ghost note hits would be skipped and that'd be a waste! - this was in response to some e-Drummists requests on Vdrums.com) and you'll have patches saved back ideal for keyboards and patches saved back ideal for V-Drums/e-Drums.

Anyway, back to the question... It will be before December 30th unless there's a hitch. I'd say some time in the next two weeks. I had a few delays in the past few days that I had to tend to so I am still working on getting individual audio demos together for the Drum Masters kits and then tomorrow we start doing video demo work and next week I hope to do some V-Drum/e-Drum in action demos. All of that is going to happen before they are available.

So hang in there! You'll have it all this month and it will be awesome! (If you join!)

Return of the Squids!

Wow, that was a fun gig. A little stressful though because besides having an octopus rig of keys and volume pedals I have an issue with my Nord Stage where the low F is OUT and the F# goes FULL BLAST! If you forget then BAM! It needs to be opened up and looked at but I have to see how easy that is... not the same as a Wurly or Rhodes where you just pop open the hood! ;) But, it's such a good exercise to put yourself in front of an audience and make sure you can do all of these various sounds and effects live. Sometimes it isn't even that it is HARD to do but you have to still nail it.

One time I did a gig with Barbara Streisand. Yeah, I know, totally from out of nowhere. I did some work for the guys who handle the tech and midi rigs of big touring acts like Madonna, Springsteen, Steely Dan, Janet Jackson. They were on the road with Madonna years ago (1993-94 time) and were offered to "fly in voice samples" for her big MGM Grand show in Vegas for New Years. It was a whole big deal, $2k a ticket and the audience was full of people like Steven Speilberg, Michael Jackson, Gregory Peck... I stood next to them all backstage which was really bizarre and cool! I met Bill Clinton's mother, Mike Myers (and his mother-in-law who the Linda Richmond character from SNL came from) and all sorts of unusual stuff like that. I'll never forget.

But, the reason I mention it is that the gig itself was pretty easy! All I had to do was wait for Barbara to stop saying something then I'd trigger a phrase of an actor playing a psychologist, maybe wait for some laughs so a little timing involved but it wasn't even a musical gig! Just triggering these phrases. But... the thing is if I slipped just ONCE!!!!! I mean it would be all over. You can't hit two notes or let up the note too early... NO forgiveness flying in voice samples without any music behind you (not like tonight with "I've been mad for f**king years..."). So that was STRESSSSSSFUl. Luckily I didn't mess it up. But good lesson. Talk about grace under pressure.

Now, I know that is pretty off topic here but if you are a performer yourself or want to be I recommend putting yourself on the spot to coordinate things and try to nail it spot on - whatever it is - and in front of an audience. The more you do it the more comfortable you are at it. Obviously those of you reading this vary in what kind of gigs you do. Some of you play concerts all the time and know what I'm talking about. But I know there are still some of you who might like to play live but end up just making music on your computer. That's all GREAT but it's also great to play with other musicians and to perform and/or to challenge yourself. I've played difficult things in complex time signatures and I've played "flying in voice overs". All really good experiences... and still nerve-racking even doing a local tribute band gig just for fun!

Anyway, a Squids-mini-mega post for ya. Off topic but hopefully interesting. Once in awhile I gotta bring back those old stories that I used to tell on here... if you don't mind the name dropping. It abounds in these stories especially when I was living in LA. I was doing all sorts of things and sampling was done more custom for either myself or touring/recording artists.

One time I was actually going to play keyboard drums on a Keith Emerson album! I am not sure if that even ever came out. But they were going to replace the drums and just have me do it. I do a lot of weird gigs - odd stuff that has come up over the years. I've never performed finger drumming at a concert though. That would be fun to do. One of these days... do a full drum solo or something and people thinking "what a wanker!" The right place to do it would be NAMM probably. I did a gig once during NAMM though and it was SUPER stressful just getting there let alone making sure everything went smooth... but that is a whole other story. I was trying to get members of Earth Wind and Fire and Jon Anderson of YES to play (with me and Nick D'Virgilio - one of the Drum Masters drummers) Owner of a Lonely Heart with real horns but it was too ambitious to do without a rehearsal so we bagged it. We did play Long Distance Runaround with him. I think we have a short clip on youtube of that: You can see a happy Squid - playing his first gig with a Receptor even!

This year I am doing a gig at I think The House of Blues with Simon Collins on the Monday or Tuesday after NAMM... or is it the Hard Rock? I'll find out. Also maybe a few days before NAMM in Vegas. (VEGAS!!!!!! Bring something nice to wear... name the movie for $5 in epointz to the first person who gets it right).

I am going to get myself some tacos.

I am not really that familiar with most of what is available. For me, I wanted something that could work with my TD-10 V-drum brain. There was only one dedicated hi-hat pad that would work for me. It is basically just one of those black rubber pads with the difference that it is shaped more like a hi-hat cymbal and actually has the give that the real cymbal would have when you play it (i.e. this hi-hat pad is not a rigid pad but actually has a bounce to it).

But I don't think the pad itself is anything special outside of the more realistic action it has. I believe it still just has a one zone trigger. The actual controller part, which I had already, is the hi-hat foot controller. That tells the brain and then whatever software is connected to it via MIDI whether the pad should trigger a closed, open or half-open sound.

Perhaps some of the new hi-hat pads have more than one trigger zone in them. I don't know. They new ones certainly look nice since they are silver and look metallic and real. http://www.thomann.de/gb/roland_vh_12_s ... hi_hat.htm But they are very expensive and apparently do not work with older brains, so I don't know if it would work for you. Although if you have figured out how to fool around with the triggers and to customize things, maybe you could get it to work.

Here's a site with pictures of a bunch of this stuff:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/electronic_drum_hihats.html

Unfortunately, Roland's own site does not do a good job of demonstrating all the kit pieces and options available.

BTW... my hi-hat pad was not in stock. I special-ordered one and hope they will have it in next week.

Mmmm. I love a good taco. I'm going to Mexico for a little vacation at some point. That'll be fun! I can get into a taco stand on the street kind of thing.

Anyway, to answer Ebow's question the downloads are broken up and most of them are less than 1 gigabyte each. It stays in your account and you can use a download manager. It's not that hard really. People do it all the time.

Btw, you guys aren't supposed to send each other DVDs of it. That was a nice gesture though but it goes against the end user license agreement which says it cannot be redistributed. However, we'll come up with ways for people to get it if they absolutely can't download it. It might cost a bit more to do it that way but might be worth it... or figure out a way to download it! That is the best solution.

fear and loathing in las vegas?

I think the keyboard drum solo on stage sounds like a great idea.

The drummer starts a solo and you trade off with him. Or, he gets up and walks off stage while you play. The audience wouldn't even understand for a moment.

Now to the matter at hand. We're at 278. What if we bump threads today and see if we can move this thing over 300? My thinking is that every time we move 100, it makes the GB that much more tasty! Remember 300 is EZ Player Pro or a Multitrack drum kit.

RR don't dare bumping coz you'll burn in hell. Anti-spammers already are tracking you to cut your ISP off...Shame on you!!!

thanks for the info. I am afraid that my PM-16 is way too old to be used with modern hihats controllers...I should chancge my drum brain, I am afraid...
