...edit...

The only thing sticking out as unknown is:
Drum Masters 2 Stairway Levee Kit

Should this have had a red X all along or is it a full kit?

I looked in my IP samples folder and I see a .nkx with the name "IP_Bonzo2 Castle ST Kit.nkx", some of the samples in this file have the prefix "bonzolev." So I bet this was in the bonham zip that some of us already downloaded. However, there are no nki's or nkm's to go along with them, so we are not ready to easily use them. I assume Squids will supply the nki's and and nkm's in the near future.
Some kits cross over between NKX's. The Stairway Levee kit pools from both those nkx's and comes with the DM Misc Kits zip now in your download area.

The kick and snare have this slap back effect and "castle-like" ambience (more like a stairwell made of stone) that is to simulate a Zep 4 sound. It's pretty close. I actually have another version in the hybrid kits that is even closer specifically to "When The Levee Breaks" with delays involved at the bottom output mixer stage.

If you don't have an error loading the kit then you're fine. If you load the kit and it is looking for samples then the it was not complete. Also if you are comparing sizes it is best to do it from your "get info" or "Properties" window on a PC which is more accurate than what shows normally (which is a quick guess from the OS sometimes and usually off).

thought that neither of Tama kits were included in the first seven downloadable DM2 kits that were put at download area. Gadd snare and two Tama kits were the latest addition to the DL area, I believe.

but... although I have DL'ed Bonhm Ludwig® Kit, I cannot see this kit in the DL area right now?
Re-download the Bonhm Ludwig if you downloaded it before I took it down this morning. The imap needed a Squid's touch. It's back in there better than ever.

Yes, the Tama STick and Brush and the Gadd snare were ready last night but my web guy passed out on me. So he made it available this morning. Should be there now! All of phase 2 should be there now in your download area of esoundz. Email blast is going out later tonight... double shifts are hard! ;) Not for me but to get everyone else to do it.

I just re-downloaded both kits, and now in the get info window it shows the right size. You may want to infom everyone again to check the size of the zips..

in fact this is the only kit that matched my taste of drum sound...
Way too early for you to resign yourself to that conclusion. :-(

There are so many fantastic drum sounds in this collection and you really change the character of each sound by adjusting knobs right on the front of the kit piece GUIs. I think I could change every kick and every snare into one that I really like just by tweeking each one a little bit. But fortunately, I am finding lots that I like already.

In any case, with the difference between MT and STm kits, there is a lot more variations you can make to the drum sound with the MT kits. Those NDV Premier demos you were listening to came from the MT kit. So if you want to be able to get it sounding just like that, you might have to choose the MT version as your freebie. It is one of the choices, isn't it?
Yes, it is one of the choices. And it is the same kit although it isn't a demo of us playing the two stereo kits. It is all we had which was a demo of the sound of the MT kit that the stereos came from. I agree it would have been much better to have a discrete demo for each of the DM2 stereo kits in the GB. But many of them were custom made for this group buy and not available before (these were not available before in stereo). We WILL still have that for Zedd and some other's requests to have it for quick auditioning purposes. (Also I may use that method myself). That will give a better idea. But if anyone wants more flexibility for different sounds on that kit or the other 3 then get the MT kit version. You can pick out TWO for free (or one and EZ Player Pro).

I think that's a lot for $99. If you want MORE options beyond that then you can also buy more kits like normal which is what we hope everyone will do when they want more. But we also hope that everyone is satisfied with what they got for their money in this group buy.

And I hope to be 90% the same ...:)
The difference you are hearing is all to do with the OH and Room mic levels. As soon as you hear what happens when you start adjusting those levels in the MT kit, you will discover a whole world of possibilites for getting the sound which you heard and many more from that kit by doing nothing other than changing a few fader levels.
You may even be hearing some compression of the conversion as well. It's mp3 coming from who knows? It has been a long time. But in any case one can get a sound extremely close since it IS in fact that same kit.

But either way, it's good isn't it? Can be used? There are MANY possibilities to eq, compress, alter pitch and change it to exactly one's liking. Then there are kit pieces to swap out to make the ultimate kit to your liking.

There were a bunch of things. One of the guys just wasn't using the noodle when he did that one. Didn't do it justice with the settings. MUCH better now. I love that kit. Also the Stairway one. Fun.

I am very pleased with what I got in this group buy! Thanks again! It was a very unique opportunity, and I'm glad I was able to be involved.

I'll definitely be picking up another couple of kits as I go on (since I can't make up my mind on the MT kits), as well as a few of the guitar (and bass) kapsules for IP.

SR ROCKS !!!!

Dimi, I think that's a GREAT drum sound!

Go for the NDV Premier MT kit as one of you choices. That is, if you want the sound from the demos. Be prepared to do some tweaking though! I have that kit already and there are MANY options to how you can dial it in. It may take a while to get it just right.

Squids, why not create presets for those particular tones (from the demo page)? That would work too :hihi: :D

Ok, if you guys wanna hear some REAL drum samples to compare these to...check out these (play the lil' keyboard at the bottom of the page for a preview). Now THOSE are some happenin' drum samples folks

Hey Squids,

I suspect that you may still be working on the cross over kits, but in case you thought that they were included with the "DM2 Misc Kit Pieces", I just discovered that they are not. I dropped the ZIP onto the Infinite Library Installer and it did install all the kit pieces, as expected. What it did not install were the Kit Multis that go with them.

Until the kits are posted, we can audition the kit pieces by loading them directly from the IP Instruments folder and not the Multis folder.

There was some discussion about the differences in sound of OWD vs some of the various Drum Masters kits. I think my response might be an interesting read so here it is copy and pasted from the other forum where it came from:

---------

Well there are all sorts of different flavors. Like Baskin Robbins! ;)

The common denominator with Ocean Way Drums is that they are all recorded at Ocean Way Recording studio by the same two engineers - whose credits are endless as we know. The 19 kits in the full collection "have a sound". There's diversity within it of course... just listen to the difference between Kit 2 and Kit 10!!!! But, there is a common "audiophille fidelity" sort of sound to it all which is hard to get actually! You need some really amazing equipment to get that sound through the optimal mics and signal chain... plus you need to know what you're doing if you're going to use the kind of mic rig they did with stereo directs and under snares. These are reasons why OWD sounds so unique. Propietary miking and that particular room and the engineer's perspective on what is a STRIKING drum sound to them.

That was a major project where they came to us as opposed to the other way around (how it usually is). A MAJOR project but that's because they wanted to go really far with it and we went there with them.

But, everything else we do is more diverse and mixed in terms of which studios, which engineers, which drum brands or drummers... the Drum Masters series is more of a "character oriented" line which sometimes has in your face drums and sometimes has sort of growly lofi or sometimes has 70s mellowness or sometimes has a raw organic quality or a vintage sound to it. The approach is different. When we go for a Bonham sound we'll use Helios mic pre's and U67's etc. When we go for a Ringo sound we'll use V72s or Redd 47s or Trident A range (the things they used) and D19 mics, D20, KM56... the mics that would give it that character and we spend our time researching it (one of my good pals wrote the book "Recording The Beatles" so I've picked his brain and also Ken Scott's... who DID record The Beatles).

So Drum Masters is more style oriented and OWD is more fidelity and "Ocean Way Sound" oriented - they have their OWN sound that people pay big bucks to get by recording there or working with them. They didn't want to imitate OTHER studio and engineer's sounds. But we do in Drum Masters. That's EXACTLY what we want to do. So that's how they're fundamentally different. What someone likes is down to their taste... just like which ice cream you like. I happen to like them all.

Well, maybe not "bubble gum flavored" ice cream.

I can confirm this. The instruments appear intact, but there are no multi's.
