(Especially as I just now noticed that this is a sticky on KVR... and I am a Moderator here)

Although there are popular websites on the internet for soundfonts.... and many of them do contain legal and freely distributed files, I have discovered that there are a few files I have seen in at least one of these "free" popular soundfont places, in the past that were questionable as to the legality of redistribution. I would suggest ones takes the sounds from any free site (or anywhere for that matter) with a bit of knowledge about this. Not everything you may find for free on the net ....is truly meant to be a free product.

Excellent point!
I've even noticed in regards to places like free-loops.com there are large quantities of loops that they just take off of other sites and redistribute on their own site. Then they turn around and sell the entire stash of free loops for a $10 "donation". I don't even understand how what they're doing there is legal.

Definitely don't take your chances on shady sites like that with questionable material.

100% of the free loops on my site are royalty free and can be used in commercial works. You just can't redistribute the loops. I only ask you give credit to LoopArtists.com if you use any of my loops in a song.

Appreciate all the tips guys. Will check these out. I have also found that doing a google search on "free vst" will bring up a lot of good stuff.

Mats Helesson's free 5-layer piano library (Yamaha C3, close miked, bright but pleasant-sounding): http://sonimusicae.free.fr/matshelgesso ... ro-en.html

We recently bought out a free SFZ Player - Alchemy Player, which comes with 1GB of WAV samples. Alchemy Player supports round-robin and key-switching plus unlimited keyboard zones and velocity layers. When you load an SFZ file, Alchemy automatically creates eight remix pad variations and provides access to 16 controls including delay, reverb, filter, vibrato and tremolo.

Get Alchemy Player Here

It would be great if metamorphosis could update the first post on this thread to include Alchemy Player.

You could make an instrument rack using Simpler in Live.

You can use the free version of Independence from Yellow Tools:
http://www.yellowtools.us/cp21/cms/index.php?id=842
and you get a 2.5 GB free sample library.

The free Alchemy Player is another possibility:

Vengeance Sound has free soundsets. The Sawtooth soundset for Massive on the massivesynth.com website is nice. I know demo loops aren't actually free but Loopmasters has amazing demo loops because you need to purchase whatever you use for commercial release, it's an incredible selection and all you have to do is create an account. In Live you can slice any loop to a new midi track and play it like a rex file just by placing the cursor beyond the midi notes if you want to play along with other loops (also starting beyond the sliced file) or record. To me that's free enough.
