I'm wondering whether anyone out there can suss out those powerful stabs between bars 3 and 6 (0'06 - 0'17) of this Trevor Horn classic...
I can't tell whether that's a Jupiter-8 or an OB-X, although it feels more like the latter - I'll be trying to recreate it in either Poly-Ana, Jupiter-8V or most probably Diva.
Your contributions would be most appreciated!

Horns rig at the time consisted of a TR 808,a Simmons module and Minimoog and that was it. It is possible he used a synth from the studio but my first guess would be the Minimoog.

Hmmm...those stabs on a Minimoog? I can't for the life of me figure how you can achieve that - I mean, it's monophonic and quite warm sounding for starters.
But then again, we're talking about Trevor Horn here, so who knows what wizardry he applied to achieve that sound?

Well he certainly had access to a multi track recorder so it's a simple matter of overdubbing.Woody Aki wrote:Hmmm...those stabs on a Minimoog? I can't for the life of me figure how you can achieve that - I mean, it's monophonic

Just read the bit where he 16 tracked every nuance of Theresa's vocal, then threw it into a Fairlight...if he kind of applied the same M.O. with a Minimoog for those stabs then it makes sense, albeit in a painstaking, time-consuming yet genial way!

He didn't have the Fairlight at that time but he could have used a tape recorder.
Now i wouldn't completely rule out another synthesizer maybe handplayed even but that's what the man says.

Yeah, I'm with you re. the Fairlight and his kit list.
What I meant was that he was already using that M.O. before he had the Fairlight, but with multi-tracking only...same as with 10CC and those amazing pads in 'I'm Not In Love'.
