However, If I wanted a simple Sh-101 emulation I'd probably go for TAL. Two reasons, the high end doesn't get as sharp or harsh as Lush and TAL is just what it says a 101 emulation, Lush does a lot more and that can also be distracting.

When you use a synth as simple was Bassline, especially since it has a sequencer, you just produce different results.

I also prefer Basslines' GUI although I feel like I want to apply photoshop image sharpening or something. It's a bit blurry to my eyes.

Cant say I'd personally choose one over the other, Lush has a supersaw after-all! I'd be happier with both. Even though I don't feel that is a huge difference in sound besides the more forward high end of Lush vs the darker tone of TAL I do prefer the sounds I end up getting from TAL as I don't have to avoid certain areas in order to avoid the harsh high end of Lush.
also I don't think Lush has a great bottom end for bass tones, but I like the bottom end on this TAL synth.

Bought it

Seems a bit more CPU intensive than U-no LX

I like the sound though. It's more 'solid' and 'chewy' if that isn't too absurd to say

I can't remember what real SH-101s sound like anymore

I guess that after buying and registering, there's no 'signing up' to TAL's site for updates, newsletter or something?

I ask because I tried to sign up on TAL's page but keep getting an error message.

Still loving this thing (but keeping fingers crossed TAL does a dark GUI too)

Oh jeez, problem solved. Installer stuck dll in the default "Steinberg" directory

Look around! Every developer under the sun is already doing that and Patrick is the only one doing this.

I end up getting more out of TAL's "simpler" emulations than the ultra sophisticated new stuff with 500 variable parameters per synth.

There are many who appreciate what Patrick has accomplished with his skills and bear in mind he is not emulating garbage, but precisely reproducing proven synthesizers that have contributed to decades of Platinum masters.

thats why i have a shortcut of my default vst folder on the desktop, fast check - if it isn't there after install i'll take a deeper look. it's sometimes the easiest things causing trouble.

Jesus calm down. First of all in my opinion he is emulating garbage. I owned a Juno 60 and don't think it is worth emulating. I've never owned a 101 but again I'm not impressed enough to think it's worth spending any time emulating....

Obviously this guy knows his stuff and has mad coding skills.....why not use those skills on something more impressive than a mono synth ?

If you're easily impressed by simple synths then I'm happy for you but I can't be the only one who wishes to see what Patrick could do with a more complicated, feature rich instrument in the league of Zebra 2 or Alchemy.......

Good question. I think the main reason is that everything with a "retro" or "legendary synth emulation" tag on it is a seller... of course each to its like, but as long as people worship the old machines, i don't see an end of this. I don't doubt though that TAL likes what he's doing, and it's his thing, so good luck to him and his business. Not my cup of tea though (at least i wouldn't pay 40 or 60 $ for something like this), and i will wait, like you, on a more capable synth. Still hoping Noisemaker will be further developped.

Juno 60 and SH-101 are classic synths. They are by no means garbage, and Patrick has done well to emulate them as close as possible. Classics should be retained at all costs - in about 20 years there won't be spare parts to fix them anymore.

A Banjo is a classic instrument as well and I can't stand the sound of them either. Classic does not automatically equal good. Maybe it's because I've owned and/or played some of those classic synths that I'm not so easily impressed by them.........

But I'm not saying he should give up emulating classic synths......those who are easily impressed will snap them up. I'm just saying at some point it would be nice to see him use his considerable talents and skills on something new and fresh. I think anyone who disagrees isn't really a true lover of synths.......just my opinion....

You're so superior to those of us who are, you know, easily impressed. Well done!

Well, judging by all of his other products, it looks like pretty much everything he has done so far has been emulations or inspired by classic gear. It seems that it's what he likes doing, and I don't think anyone should fault him for choosing that if he enjoys it and is obviously good at it.

I don't think any other developer has been able to make emulations as accurate for a specific piece of gear as Patrick has, so if he is filling that niche, I think he should definitely keep at it.

I'm sure that it's actually harder for a software programmer to (accurately) emulate 'simple' classic gear vs make a synth with a bunch of features. Not only that, but I'd say that there are already a lot more synths available which have a ton of features than there are classic emulations.
