Matrix View is still drag and drop.
Thanks. Maybe next time. Great update all around.

Yes.
Lol! $49.00 was the only option when I clicked the upgrade link. I didn't get a serial or a download yet. Ill see if paypal will get me a refund. I thought, they were being cool for never making x2 producer work. LoL.

Wish me luck! Riley

The main missing thing though in the basic is audio snap. That means literally no audio quantize, no midi to audio groove, and no izotope radius for time stretch, only the awful standard groove clip algorithms.
It was "X3" streamlined for me only - remember? :D

I never use that stuff, not once.
Time stretch always reduce quality and audio snap I don't know what it's for.

My new strategy for daws is to do use multiple if necessary and just move a track or two to another one doing special treatment, if not able in main one.

I sort of gave up the idea to find everything in one daw.
:)
Since I've been an Essential user, to me it's "expanded" (unlimited number of tracks, plugs, etc + Session Drummer 3). I wanted improvement in timestretching, but I have Studio One for that task so it's ok for now.

Btw, X3b and X3c seem to be already planned:

Seth Kellogg [Cakewalk]:
"X3a is for the full installer download.

Boxed users aren't getting their copy till next week. So a patch X3a is slated a few days from now. We're doing final checking on the installer, etc.

Dev has already been working on X3b since last week. That won't include the video features Noel has talked about being in a future update. That's slated for c."

X3??? In a word, AWESOME!!! Totally fricken unbelievably wonderful... I've been in a love/hate relationship with Sonar since Sonar 5 and I have to say that until the X series, I struggled to understand this powerful program... X1, though riddled with crashes/bugs... finally made sense to this humble songwriter, although random crashes still frustrated me... I have to admit, lots were stupid user errors (SUE's)...after all, I'm a songwriter not a technofile... but by X2 most of my frustrations vanished and having spent many hours on X3, I'M FRACKIN STOKED!!!!

I'm in love... and I have barely scratched the surface of this beautiful creation... and to all you frustrated folks out there living with horrid memories... you do yourselves and others a disservice by ranting and trashing what you don't know...

The bakers have outdone themselves... and I am ecstatic! I will create better songs, quicker and with more joy... and you can do the same or keep spewing about the past and ignore the opportunities to play with the most powerful and user friendly piece of kit ever imagined.

btw, I just took a break awhile ago and the feedback over at the ole Cake forums is similar to mine... it's never been like this before... all earlier versions evoked both love and hate... this is different... really different...

Badass Bakers! You Rock! :D

Grats.. you are the one of the lucky ones.

8.5 repeatedly crashed my top of the line, 64bit streamlined Win7, custom built 8-core monster, randomly.. daily.. for no apparent reason.

Switched to S1, transferred the troubled projects over from 8.5.. never had an issue with them, or any other projects since.. and still have never crashed the thing.

Don't get me started on V-Vocal...
Did you by any chance run firewire interface of any sort?

I evaluated some firewire stuff when building my new daw 3 years ago.
I had some TC Electronics drivers that did BSOD with S 8.5 - but not Reaper.
As soon as I activated an audio input on a track - pooooof...

I left firewire and didn't keep those. Went back to RME internal cards.

Anyway, just a thought...
Nope.. all USB 2.0. (my 3.0 ports felt sad and neglected..)

Attached hardware was (and still is) a Cakewalk branded UA-25 EX (USB Breakout Box) and a Cakewalk branded A-500 S (USB MIDI Keyboard Controller).

I really tried everything I could think of to try to track down what might be causing any issues.

Over six months worth of random crashes resulting in having to reboot (fast 10 second reboots thanks to a pimped out/optimized SSD), then 15+ minutes of loading/refilling the song/project RAM, which was generally 10 to 11 GB worth of samples.

Got in the habit of just setting up the reload.. and walking away to grab a sandwich or walk off the frustration.. only to come back and sometimes find it had actually crashed again.. just trying to reload the project.

Or, sometimes it would tease me and stay up long enough to let me hit a key on my MIDI controller.. then immediately crash again.

So.. Imagine that happening 5 or 6 times per session.. and you get the idea.

Sometimes I'd get in over an hours worth of work before a crash.

Was also in the habit of saving after every significant bit of song programming.. about every minute.

Finally got to the point to where I just had to stop working on my album.. just couldn't take the stress anymore.

Had a bit of hope when the X series came out.. but monitored the boards closely only to find people complaining about the same issues I was still having.

Another 6 months went by before I had the extra cash to invest in new DAW software, and begin to learn it.

An album that should have taken me about 18 months to complete.. took me over 3 years. So.. yeah.. I'm sorta bitter about it. :P

I believe you clicked on the Sonar X3 (Formerly Essentials) upgrade, which goes for $49. The others are Studio and Producer.

As far as the refund, you should probably contact Cakewalk. They will need to correct your order anyway, and likely can credit/cancel the Paypal end of it as well.

Wow, so X2 is totally abandonware. SWEET!

No 149 from me. I'll live with the mess I have.

+1

I have Cubase 7 on the same PC and no problems there , even when i loaded 2 projects which were totally different from older Cubase versions like SX, must be 7 years old.

But no X2b? Wow never had only one update in a major DAW and cakewalk's forum frequent response is "well Sonar works pretty good on my PC..." . Doesn't help really. Ah yes and no new features on matrix and upgrades to Dimension Pro/Rapture?

Can't please everyone all of the time. And I get that folk are P'O'ed over the lack of updates for v2... But v3 clearly has addressed some of the standing bugs -- and then some.

I upgraded my "Studio" license (I have a Producer one as well). Did it as a test to decided if I was going to stay with Sonar....

I have to say that so far I am pleasantly surprised. Most of the CW forum must concur because I have never seen it that civilized immediately after an upgrade.

Sorry for you folks who have already jumped ship. My advice is to maybe wait a week, and see if the CW forums get fired up over anything... If not, maybe it's time to take Sonar out for another spin...? (Unless, of course, you're missing features you want; I personally couldn't care less about the Matrix or additions to Dim Pro/Rapture).
