Ok, this might be the last demo from my soundset. I should have probably done this one first, since it's such an important part of the set.
These are some plucks and some other sounds from my keys and plucks section. I'm only using kirnu cream arp and a limiter outside of Bazille. No extra eq or anything was done to the sounds.

Everry clip I heard in this thread sounds terrible, sorry. Not a synth for me.

You should get headphones with a built in high-pass filter and an exciter, I'm sure you'd like it then.DJ Warmonger wrote:Everry clip I heard in this thread sounds terrible, sorry. Not a synth for me.
In all seriousness though, what you don't like about it is probably what everyone else loves. It has body and soul to it; it's not just head and bottom, like what you're probably looking for.
edit: u-he is working on a supersaw synth which should be pretty crazy for trance and stuff

I checked out your website and agree that Bazille is definitely not a synth for youDJ Warmonger wrote:Everry clip I heard in this thread sounds terrible, sorry. Not a synth for me.

Maybe your personal audio preferences are different to what you are hearing on this thread, but Bazille and some of the sounds presented here are by no stretch of the imagination terrible sounding.DJ Warmonger wrote:Everry clip I heard in this thread sounds terrible, sorry. Not a synth for me.
Not liking the taste of raspberries doesn't make them terrible if you prefer the taste of strawberries.
I've always found the unwritten rules of certain kinds of dance music genres strange... there was a time for example where if you didn't use a 909 bass drum you weren't a legit dance floor producer. Now it seems to be huge sawtooth synth sounds.
Bazille is an amazing step forward in ITB synthesis IMO.

You aren't just trolling? You really think JC_'s clips sounded "terrible"? I thought they were awesome myself.

No, I'm not. But it seems people are very concerned about my opinion, so let me explain:ATS wrote:You aren't just trolling? You really think JC_'s clips sounded "terrible"? All the sounds are dirty, gritty and resonant... in a wrong way. Normally, when I get something like that from a synth, I call it a mistake. I can't use something that creates glitches by default.
Pure sounds all the way. If there is a need to make them more noisy, there is a number of techniques and effects (pitch mod, FM, saturation) for the purpose, but they all stay in close relation to original tune.

It's good to hear they plan to address it - do you have a link where anyone from U-he discusses this? Would be interesting to read.pdxindy wrote:It is the long term plan to improve the patch browser (as stated by U-he). Personally, I like the U-he patch browser much more than the Native Instruments one (I find the NI one annoying). I don't like the whole database thing. I don't like that I do a search and get some of the same presets as the previous search. I don't like searching by terms cause my own presets are a bit hard to categorize and or don't easily fit the standard terms.
I like that I can organize Bazille presets in my own way. I can manually make my own directory structure. I have no trouble finding what I want in U-he synths.
But don't worry, I think most people prefer the database thing, but I do not.
If they're gonna do it, then I hope they really do it. While I find Native Instruments browsers helpful, they are far, far less so than Spectrasonics, who use musically more useful terms ("aggressive", "warm" etc). In the meantime, it did cross my mind that simply adding a search box can't be hard for U-he. Simple string searches can be surprisingly useful, especially when the patches are accompanied by text notes as they are in Bazille.
Personally I never find favourite patches all that useful. What I'm looking for one day might be totally different to what I'm looking for the next.

I'm not really 'resonating' with Bazille's sound either. I can't really put my finger on it why, I tried it out but it just doesn't click with me. I'm fan of U-hes synths normally Ace, Diva (but I don't like Zebra, the basic sound also on that one doesn't appeal to me)... And I've played on real modulars occasionally, something just rubs me the wrong way with Bazilles basic sound. Anyway, looking forward to the super saw synth!

I actually didn't like ACE very much but do like Bazille.

Is there a way to objectively analyze/critique something without always being tied to ones own personal points of reference and taste? Sometimes on these threads the clouds of absolutism hang drearily over our heads... It seems obvious to me that those people who like the analogue emulation of DIVA and ACE might be inclined to not like the more digital sound of Bazille or Zebra, especially if their genre of music tends towards the analogue saw tooth sound that a lot of trance and dance floor embraces whereby conversely some producers involved in Dubstep might be more inclined towards a digital sound. There's a similar discussion going on right now with regards to Serum and Codex.
These are all incredible synths that (together-digital/analogue/wavetable/FM) create such a wide variety of amazing sounds that complaining about the sound of a synth based on personal preference and not objectively seems a bit mean spirited. Hats off to the developers providing us with great tools at amazing prices.
I've had real analogue synths (OBX/Jupiter8 etc) and find the new breed of ITB synths from developers like U-He more exciting and multi facetted than some of those old flat sounding synths of yesteryear.
For the right music in the right hands Bazille is a killer synth

I love the sound of it. I love the sound of Diva & Ace too (not really played too much with Zebra, although I've spent many hours mucking around with Zebralette and like that so I'm guessing I'd like the full thing too). Different tools for different applications.
Bazille can make sounds that no other synth I have can make (to my knowledge). Yes it's digital....some things benefit from that - and not just modern styles like dubstep. I'm using it mainly for evolving drones and sequenced stuff more typical of modular setups. But I've made one or two leads (which it does great for me...and that digital sounds can work great on leads), and more traditional pads and stuff. Not done much bass with it yet, but I'm sure it's capable...I bought Diva the other week, and that's quickly become my defacto bass maker.
For otherwordly noises Bazille shines. I make a lot of otherworldy, weird noises...or try to!
If I have any kind of problem with it at all, it's that it sucks the hours away so easily. I started fiddling last Satrday about 10pm, and next time I noticed the time it coming up for 4am in the morning, and I hadn't actually done anything except mess around with it! The more you play, the more you learn though....
