Well, here's hoping I see the fruits of this buyout in a future Logic version. I've not upgraded to Logic X yet, but I can't imagine they're going past version X in marketing... I wonder how they'll sell upgrades at this point?

Guess I should have used my Camel Bucks and gotten Alchemy as it was, rather than wait for a responsive file browser.

So why even post the bit about 'getting email'?
You obviously were aware from the start that email was only sent to beta team, otherwise you would post the contents of email immediately in the thread and wouldn't just ask if everyone received it.

One of my best experiences with Alchemy happened at work - I have a day job where I work in a room full of people - anyway - one day while taking a break, I fired up Alchemy on my iPhone, and started fiddling around with it using some melody I was dreaming of at the time. I stopped, worried that I might be annoying my fellow man, when one of the gals told me to keep playing, that it was really relaxing to listen to. A couple others agreed - wow. One of those strange moments that I'll probably remember for the rest of my life. For the record: I have Alchemy on a windows PC with about 1/3 of the libraries, and was planning on adding the rest sometime in the near future (within the next year or so) - but I found the app running on iOS to sound basically the same, with of course reduced functionality.
IMHO, any way you slice it, Alchemy is a world-class synth - it's hard to imagine it not existing anymore, but stranger things have happened.
Like entertaining a room full of people with a music app on your phone.

Haha... fair enough. Sour grapes on my part... but it obviously irks me (just a *bit*goldenanalog wrote: I do, jlanthier! lol!
It's not that hard!
Not that any of this invalidates that this is the most interesting thing to *you*. But I'm guessing that you are a member of a VERY slim minority since if Apple's plans for an improved iOS app was *really* the most interesting thing about this, then your post would have probably been rounding out the second half of the first page of this thread, and as you may have noticed, it ended up somewhere well north of **page** 150. Nothing personal. I just hate Apple right now...

And yes... It's not that hard!) that there is a decent chance that Apple will essentially nuke Alchemy as we know it in favour of giving a Mac Specific DAW a facelift, and capitalizing on some of CA's iOs capabilities. And I believe that for the vast majority of THIS audience, myself included, this is rather tragic. For the cool-gadget-loving world at large, this will probably eventually lead to some neat iOs gizmos.... but for the majority of us music makers - well, there can be no argument after seeing the energy generated by this thread that this would be MASSIVELY disappointing to the VAST majority of people who have invested time and $$ in CA products. So no I still don't believe, personally, that the interesting thing here is what might happen to the evolution of an iOs synth, I think the thing that is interesting here is that one of our favourite tools has disappeared, very suddenly, and that it will most likely reappear in a way that most of it's current users will have not much use for... hey - C'est la vie!

Anyway: yeah, I know, sir - but I'm going to assume at this point without asking any questions that we don't know what has actually happened - only that we have 6 months to download all of our sh!t before CA (or whoever is managing their assets!) turns out the lights.
Ouch.
The reason why I'm harping on the ios thing is also perhaps a Dumass assumption: there may be many more Alchemy ios downloaders then vsti guys because of access (AppStore) and cost - the first level of Alchemy is free(!) whilst the Pro version is just a few bucks - and I'm not kidding you about this - Alchemy runs ridiculously well almost to a fault on both the iPhone and iPad - which could potentially really do wonders to peak somebody's interest leading up to (One +positive+ possibility) buying out CA, and maybe even infusing enough capital to get them to ver 2 and beyond.
But I speculate - I don't know sh!t, just that what CA has done to date has really impressed me, and they have always come off as very nice people.

How does/did Alchemy iOS integrate with the plugin? Could it be used as a controller via wi-fi for example?
I could see the value in such a product for Apple. It may indicate a push towards further establishing the iPad as a serious music-making tool. Now, this may be a very (unrealistically) hopeful thing but if Apple is intending Alchemy 2 to be some sort of flagship iOS instrument with some kind of desktop DAW integration then it might make sense for them to continue with Windows VST.
I could imagine some sort of Alchemy Player type plugin that could be effectively unlocked by using the full iOS app for example. This would fit with Apple's hardware-based philosophy (you would need an iPad to fully use it) without necessarily forcing everyone onto a Mac, kinda like how iTunes works on Windows.
Like I said, this is probably far too hopeful. I'm just putting it out there as another speculation, one which would be less awful than most that have been suggested.
