Interesting that Steinberg are doing a VST instrument survey , could Steinberg have bought Camel ?

You start at A finish at B and everything else in-between is what you make it .......... that's life and music

As I wrote in the poll thread, although I placed my bet on Apple, there are two other companies that IMO also have the funds and the motivation: Steinberg and iZotope.

Alchemy would sure spruce up Iris! Doubt it though...

No, a company can't realistically do that. US patent law is first to invent not first to file – things like lab notebooks are used as records.

People have dressed up patents to attempt to pretend they're not kiboshed by prior art. And the USPTO will let you do that. It's when the patent is challenged in court that they get found out. Unfortunately, that's the expensive bit. One miscreant took a bunch of companies to the cleaners in the 1980s over Token Ring networking before Bob Madge decided to fight it - and win.
Right, but if the prior art is your property, then there's no challenge, unless you like suing yourself. There are two possibilities as I see it:

1.) CA had technology that they themselves patented -- Apple (or an entity like Apple :hihi: ) purchased the rights to the technology from CA, including transfer of ownership of the patent(s) as part of the deal

2.) CA had patentable technology, but never patented it themselves, nor has anybody since -- e.g., if Alchemy Mobile was the first of it's kind, nobody else could necessarily successfully patent it; Apple (or an entity like Apple :hihi: ) buys the "innovative" IP, with one purpose being to patent the technology, but also to put into practice ... Apple in particular really does have an interest in mobile/laptop, mobile/desktop synergy, and it's always best to own your synergy outright rather than license your synergy from somebody else... :)
You need to limit that rez, bro.

I would trade e-licenser for the ability to remain cross-platform. Logic proprietary would be a personal step backward, and I say that as a dual-platform user with a Logic 9 license.

I wondered that too. But wouldn't you take the survey BEFORE you wrote an eight figure check?

Lets put it this way , im praying that it's Steinberg then at least Camel can venture into Vst 3 and come up with a dual platform monster . If it's Apple, well i think there'll be an uproar

Not really , when they have signatures to look at on the Steinberg forum and feed back from Camel of how many people are actually using Cuendo ;-)

My thoughts on this too. I really really really hope it is a cross platform company and not only Windows or Mac.

Otherwise.. this thread, or another one, will end up with another 100+ pages of fury! :o

Plus, I was very much hoping to see an updated CamelSpace on Windows. :ud:

There's an opportunity there for someone. Audio Damage, for example, has most if not all of the bits that are needed...

If those eight figures are true, I can sadly only imagine apple being insane enough to pay that kind of money. Alchemy is great but but not the end all. It's only worth that much if you have no skills of your own and/or the IP offers some serious punch beyond the application itself.
