a whole lot of the DX7 sounds NEEDS some good effects to really shine. Since Dexed outputs are dry as a camel .... head, are we sure that the "no-chorus/flanger/modulation" rule is needed for this OSC?
Could'nt we (or just bjporter) name a single free chorus or multieffect VST we could use to wet a bit the sounds?
Not that it's legal for the comp, but Acon Digital's Multiply is an awesome free chorus

I get it through Google Play store sometimes. Seems to all work as intended. Zinio should be fine ...right?
No problem. For Google Play, choose the Zionio option. You can read the mag via google kiosk app or with google chrome on your PC.

what do i need to do to save a patch, send it to where and then save?

Guys, i have some trouble:
Using FLStudio 11 on Win7-64, i load one instance of DEXED (no matter if the 32 or the 64 version).
The GUI appears and shows Patch "1. Say Again", which is a sort of short arpeggio with different sound for each osc.
Now the problems begins: i click on the patch name and a menu appears showing 32 patches: whichever one i click, i alwasy get "!. Say again" (and the sound is the same). Each third time i click on a name it finally shows on the box, but still the sound is the same.
If i click on "Cart" and i choose one of the 32 "SynprezFM_XX" submenu, the first patch of the new soundbanks loads and the sound is right. When i click on the patch name to pick one, it immediatly go back to "1. Say Again", and it sounds also.

So, while "1. Say Again" is coherent to his name, i'd avoid to build a song using 24 instances of that sound..... what should i do to change the patch i want to hear?

For anyone still having problems with drums. I made an initial patch for tweaking my drums. You get an already solid Kick played on lowest octave. Tom like sound in the middle octave and blipps in the higher. Playing around in cutoff/reso, LFO section, PMD/AMD and algorithm gives lot of varioations. Try out! Would be glad this is useful to someone.

Hit the cog on the wrapper and choose "allow program editing" :D

DOH! It works, thanks!
To learn: it is the first time i have to do that.... what's the difference from other VSTs?

I don't know, but I had the same "problem" with the "old" FreeAlpha plugin,
It remembered the settings but forgot the patch name,
then I found out that for that plugin I needed to check the "allow program editing" box,
so whenever something like that happens I check the box. :D
It also has to do with : some plugins, when you fiddle with a preset,
go to the next preset and back again it goes back to the initial state of the preset,
and others go back to the settings after you fiddled with it,
it remembers the changes you made.. <- does this make sense ?

The general rule being that the sound should primarily come from the synthesizer and any sound altering effects should only be used very carefully
Pretty much sums it up. Currently, modulation EFFECTS are not allowed, including chorus/phaser/flanger/glitch. Things that basically work by sampling the sound and replaying it different with ptich changes, something that you wouldn't directly be able to get with the plugin by itself. (Of course, you can definitely just stack 2 instances panned hard left/right and alter the detune very slightly to get a huge chorus effect, anyway).

EQ, delay, dynamics (compressor/limiter/transient/etc), all allowed - you would be hard pressed to get a decent mix without shaving off some low frequencies with EQ. Still, not dramatically altering the sound, just making things fit together better. Filters are glorified EQ, so also allowed.

FX that have are normally allowed but also have modulation as a secondary function, such as delay that might detune the echoes ARE also currently allowed (although they were not in the past), but, true to the spirit of the rule, the modulation effect should be minimal.

The spirit is to have sounds as close to the plug as possible, as was mentioned. But then, we are making an entire track after all, so preventing normal mixing/mastering techniques would just be silly and result in much worse tracks and only 2 people in the entire world want that. One of them has already chimed in. :)

However, DO MODULATE parameters through automation all you want!! This is also essential to keep things interesting! Modulate EQ if you need to, definitely modulate synth parameters, automate MIDI pitch bend or other CC's. Absolutely!! :)
Thanks to all. This is more than enough for me :)
I'm not sure that I will do all my presets but I remembered now that there are some good examples in the DX7 manual for basic patches. Anyway I won't touch the mathematic analysis behind what I do. I will do all by ear and guessing :D
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Thought this info might be useful to Logic Pro X users.

I just downloaded and installed the following AudioUnits version of DEXED:
http://le-son666.com/software/dexed/dex ... u_test.zip

I found it on this forum:
https://github.com/asb2m10/dexed/issues ... t-68101346

At first glance, it seems to work on Logic Pro X (10.1.1).

Sorry to ask, but is really a whole new universe for me.

There's not Portamento and panning? I can't find them on Dexed and by skimming the DX7 manual i can't find them either.
Seems strange to me... also 'cause otherwise (about pan) what's the Mono switch is for?

Yep, and i hate that behaviour from the bottom of my heart.... if i don't click on "save", i don't want my fiddling saved :)

Thanks a lot.

Both are not available.
However, panning should be no big deal to pull off with your DAW software.
Concerning the missing portamento: it could be worse ! at least we have a working pitchwheel ! :tu:
