That's odd, it works fine in most hosts. It must be a bug related to something special about Orion. I'd need to download the host to test it myself and fix it, assuming it is possible to fix.
Xhip uses some special layering options for the windows. For example see the transparent menus in the screenshots I've posted. Still, if there were any problem with the window being displayed you should have gotten a message box that said "gfx::gdi:" or "wnd::win32:" "some error message related to windows".
If you didn't get such a message it means there was no error with the window, so exactly why it wouldn't show up is difficult to say.
Xhip also uses SSE for graphical operations (blit, shaders, etc) and if your processor doesn't have SSE2 (must be an older, ancient 32-bit processor) it may crash.
Xhip likely won't run on older versions of XP, you should really be running a modern OS. It is possible for me to disable the newer features to allow it to work. I haven't bothered to add checks "is OS newer than XP?" because there are so few people using older OSes.. XP SP3 should work fine.

It works for me on Cubase 8 and Bitwig Studio 1.1 (Windows 8.1 x64)
I really like the lights on the envelope display that visually indicate which part of the envelope its in, nice little touch there.
The filters sound very good to the ears nice work
Going to take it for a test drive

I am sure that the problem is Orion....my computer is not that old and I am running Windows 7 SP1. I like to use Orion to "play" my VSTi's live. It loads quickly and is a simple host. Once I have an idea for a song then I use Studio One or FL Studio as a DAW. Sorry to have wasted you time.aciddose wrote:That's odd, it works fine in most hosts. A bug report isn't a waste of time, I appreciate it very much.
I had no idea there might be an issue with the GUI displaying in some situations, this is the whole reason I've posted the alpha here on KVR!
So thank you! I'll just need to get a copy of Orion myself and test it before I can figure out whether it is a problem I can fix or not.

I suspect the next version I upload will be the RC (release candidate) for official pre-release testing.mztk wrote:yeah really interesting sound - just checking demos, waiting a bit,

The TODO list currently contains:
- Tweak xmod feedback depths
- Investigate GUI doesn't display in orion
- Replace buttons with menus (remains undecided)
- Add options to modify init and reset presets
- Create "factory" init and reset presets and include them
- Add map-CC menu with load/save/clear options
- Finish and test parameter routing functionality
- Update the preset format to include all new data
- Fix import of old preset data and test it
Xhip doesn't use cubase/VST format patches, it has its own format.mztk wrote:(maybe i suggest a single zip download with fxb/p's included?)
I could definitely include the default bank inside the plugin, or it could be part of an installer (will most likely be) although this is something for an official release.
We're dealing with an alpha here.

Try loading this as a bank. To stop playback and go back to normal mode load bank then hit cancel.
You can find many more (100s) AHX modules online.

Decided to give it another go in FL Studio 12 and Studio One 2.....no probs!! Good sound and a nice factory bank! Looking forward to RC. Thanks.aciddose wrote:A bug report isn't a waste of time, I appreciate it very much.

Okay I've uploaded another version. (Sorry mztk!) I've added a right-click menu to the Xhip logo that allows you to resize the GUI.
The only change here is this resizing menu so if you don't want to use/test resize, don't worry about this new alpha it's otherwise identical to the last one.
I don't like the idea of drag-to-resize, that's just a pain. The bitmap scaling can be done with interpolation disabled and I'd like to implement a better lanczos scaling algorithm but these optons aren't yet in the menu.
This should solve any GUI size issues for now without needing multiple versions.
I think the way I handle the resize is okay, at least it seems to partially work in Reaper. Reaper may have a bug in that it doesn't position the resized window correctly, but you can always close the GUI and open it again to fix that even if your host doesn't support resize correctly.
For hosts that don't support resize period however, I'll need to put the initial scaling value in a config file to allow that to work.
Most hosts should work fine with the current version.

Nope.
The fonts are something I can in the future deal with although the current font is manually kerned (horizontal spacing).
The knobs and other bitmaps though you'll need to get higher res renders of.
Both of those require some additional work on the skinning system and won't happen now, too big of a side-track. I'll continue working on this after the next version is out.

I really like the update so far, the resize feature of the GUI is perfect. Will the effects eventually be "per patch" rather than global as they are now ?
Edit - Possible bug ? When resizing from 120% to 150% FL Studio 11 will crash.
Also Const Attack switches, they don't seem to have any noticeable difference to the sound. Finally, what does the edit tabs do in the effect chain ? again these don't seem to function.

The effects are only something I added for fun. I don't have any plans for them.DrewDale wrote:I really like the update so far, the resize feature of the GUI is perfect. Will the effects eventually be "per patch" rather than global as they are now ?
If they became a real feature at some point there is no reason like the "route" page they couldn't be associated with presets.
That said however, I absolutely hate presets with effects
Also, if presets depended upon effects this would make the synth require the effects to be concrete/fixed as a part of the synth as opposed to constantly changing and improving as they are now.
Definitely not something that is planned. More a Xhip 2 thing.
Likely a FL Studio bug, perhaps report it to them?DrewDale wrote: Edit - Possible bug ? When resizing from 120% to 150% FL Studio 11 will crash.
Const attack adjusts the attack time such that regardless of the level they start from (with voice recycling), multiple voices triggered at the same time will always enter the decay stage at exactly the same time.DrewDale wrote: Also Const Attack switches, they don't seem to have any noticeable difference to the sound. The edit buttons switch which effect controls are displayed for. Only useful when you have multiple effects loaded and want to edit the parameters for a specific effect.
A manual is definitely planned. Any volunteers?

The alpha just crashed Reaper doing the same thing.. 32-bit version running in Reaper 4.78 32-bit on Win7 64-bit. Can't kill the process either.. Aside from that, liking the new alpha a lotaciddose wrote:Likely a FL Studio bug, perhaps report it to them?DrewDale wrote: Edit - Possible bug ?
