IS the resynthesis just for tiny parts of a waveform? What's the granulator do? Work on a sample or granulate a wavetable somehow?

VERY excited about this. ElectraX is still one of my favourite synths of all time.

So does it mean the Cutoff could not be modulated in a usual way? In Icarus you could modulate the Cutoff of the complex filter modes like with all others.
Morpheus seems to include a lot of filter modes with different filter morphs and settngs included in a ROM so those do not seem to be completely flexible in terms of real-time modulations. This seems to be different with the new Morpheus Eurorack module.
I have an Emu Command Station with Z-Plane filters. The DSP is limited like a lot of early 90s technology. The filter cutoff could be modulated but it was frozen for the entire note duration wherever it was at the start of the note. The next note could use a different cutoff for the entire note. Not very impressive by today's standards. The new Eurorack module will allow continuous modulations.

I have a feeling the term Z-Plane is trademarked by Emu. It would probably be better if Tone2 came up for a different term for their marketing.

Well, unless it's solely a feeling, i don't think they have to change anything. Any proof that it's trademarked?

Yes it was. The term and the filter itself is under patented protection. So, either Tone2 licensed it or they most certainly risk to have issues with Creative, if they become aware of the fact.

It may, if they were using the term "Z-Plane filters" but are they or is this just an assumption based on discussion in this thread?

I see. Well maybe someone should inform them then before they release it.

From Tone2's facebook:
"Tone2 Icarus will come with a powerful dual stereo filter section. It will include over 60 different sounding filter types: Vocal, Fractal, Analog, Digital, Resonator, EQ, Ringmod, AM, FM, Phaser, Comb, Z-Plane, Multimode, Resampling, …"
