My computer looks pretty fancy tbh, and runs all kinds of software without some USB sticks from fishy looking websites. That other one doesn't even sell it.
What gives? Can't these work like normal plugins?

StiX Contest : Compressors and -slight- EQ are allowed in the 3rd category ( Song/Track writing with StiX + other instruments) as long as they dont transform completely the initial sound. In the case of Kush UBK-1 the compressor could be used but not the saturation part ( StiX has already a disto unit + drive in the filter), or, if used, at very subtle values.( So better not use at all the saturation part actually). In short : Compressors, limiters, slight EQ, external reverbs : Ok, as long as they dont destroy/alter in a drastic way the original sound of StiX.HardSinc wrote:That's definitely a reason to check it again
So when you say compressors and eq's are allowed does this include stuff like UBK1's and pre amps on eq's? I would think not, but I wanted to clarify.

No, you dont need any physical dongle to participate in the contest. Nor to run the complete versions of StiX, or any other Xils-Lab synths..jon wrote:Nice contest and nice synths. I'd like to participate but your products apparently require some sketchy looking gadgets to run. Will you send me one of those?
To be clear :
* Soft Ilok (similar to NI C/R protection as I see it) is available for StiX full version, AND for StiX FullFeatured/TimeLimited demo version, that you can use to participate in the contest.
* A 'protection free' demo version is also available, with restricted features. This means no physical dongle protection, but also not any other protection ( Like Soft Ilok drivers)
* Some Xils-Lab instruments, like Oxium or MiniSyn'X, are only serial protected. Some are protected with either eLicencer, Ilok, or Soft Ilok. In this case, Soft Ilok - no hardware dongle- is ALWAYS available.
Well, I dont think I can make it more clear.

My biggest issue with Ilok and Elicenser is i'm often using a laptop and when you're moving them around it's pretty easy to break them, especially the old elicenser, even my current one is held together with duct tape. Apart from that they don't bother me. Go back 10 years, different issues, these days, not a problem.
I got you on the FX usage. I'll give the track writing a miss, too many variables of what can and can't be done, too much thinking about what if's instead of just doing it
I'll have a crack at the others though, a free copy of XILS 4/5 would be very nice.

I'm happy I don't have to use the dongles with a laptop. That is a PITA when you have to be careful not to break them. I don't want to derail the topic, I just wondered, why the heck Pace can't make USB sticks like Logitech, that is just very tiny? Should be possible nowadays.HardSinc wrote:I got you on the FX usage. Iirc Ilok ( both dongle and soft ilok versions) allows you to install StiX on two computers simultaneously. ( maybe even one with a dongle, and another with soft ilok, but not sure about that)HardSinc wrote:My biggest issue with Ilok and Elicenser is i'm often using a laptop and when you're moving them around it's pretty easy to break them, especially the old elicenser, even my current one is held together with duct tape. As for the contest Track/Song category, well, in doubt, just use a regular compressor/limiter and light EQ -if you wish to play in this category-.
I also use various protection systems since several years without problems. ( Serials, Various C/R, eLicencer and Ilok). Until now the only real problems I had were from abandoned plugs with C/R, that I cant authorize anymore ( Gigasampler, Kjaerhus etc) But these were *big* problems : No more instruments !

You could at least try :Lotuzia wrote: Well, I dont think I can make it more clear.
You can therefore save your presets and settings, and have access to all parameters , and you can begin to work at once on professional projects. However, this version is time limited, requires a dongle for eLicencer or the iLok License Manager for iLok.
Moreover, you must fill the form below to get a valid temporary licence
(Note : empty USB-eLicensers are available from our store, for only 16€, including worldwide shipping )
Please fill the form following the next link to get an eLicenser authorization code (AC) or iLok asset that will allow you to transfer on your dongle a time limited, full featured license for the StiX

Well it requires a dongle for the eLicencer version OR the Ilok licence manager for ILOK version. So not the ilok 1/2 dongle, only the manager. So this means that the physical dongle is only one option for the ILOK version, the other one beeing the Soft Ilok, wich doesnt require a physical dongle..jon wrote:You could at least try :Lotuzia wrote: Well, I dont think I can make it more clear.

But I agree, it could have been worded in a more precise way.
So well, the important thing is that you can now get the soft ilok version and participate in the contest if you wish without having to use an additoional USB port on your computer, wich was your former question

Yes, it surely could have been, as well as the e-mail with the licence code which also only refers to USB dongle. This whole process of getting a simple VST plugin to run was quite tedious, and I had to create an account on some suspicious website and install their software which seems to want to run a service all the time.Lotuzia wrote: But I agree, it could have been worded in a more precise way.

There's a lot of room for improvement here, why not do normal copy protection like everyone else?

Please don't start here (yet another) anti-iLok thread. If it's too tedious for you, if the service makes you paranoid, just don't install the StiX-demo, use other ilok-free plugins and be happy with them..jon wrote:Yes, it surely could have been, as well as the e-mail with the licence code which also only refers to USB dongle. +1 ... I'm sure I'm not the only one sick to the back teeth of hearing these non-arguments against iLok and/or eLicenser. These are the well proven, reliable forms of copy protection Xils choose to use - if you refuse to accept this then it's your loss. Please don't rant here about your personal 'dislike' of iLok/eLicenser because of some historical/rumoured/anecdotal/paranoid 'evidence' of problems with these solutions.stardustmedia wrote:Please don't start here (yet another) anti-iLok thread. This thread is about a contest promoting StiX - not (yet another) copy protection argument
