99% do not have the original gear. Arturia covers all the functionality that´s why they get praised. E.g. there are reviews in the net about their SEM but the guys from Amazona etc. don´t have a Two Voice. They can´t compare. Anyway, it is a bit strange what Arturia does because I have a mini brute and I love the Filter but when it is up to Software they are two different companies ("Filter makes brzzz that´s ok"). My collegue at work is new to Music production and he has all the Spire & Co VSTs and thought that´s genious. One day a Volca Bass from Korg arrived in my office and he tweaked the Filter and said "WTF... I cannot do that with software". A toy! You know what I mean?exmatproton wrote:

Most reviews i read, are from Sound on Sound. In my experience, they know what they are talking about, do extensive testing and use lots of vintage gear as well.e-modic wrote:99% do not have the original gear. The actual review about Sem V is quite positive.
I guess it is hard to compare soft- with hardware and i believe some real improvements have to be made. But with what was possible, Arturia did quite a good job.
Filters are really difficult, if you want to keep the cpu hit low. It is a question of time, i guess, to get really close to "the real deal".
But still, in the digital domain lots is possible and i have sold hardware to get into the software. Not using hardware anymore. I guess it depends on what one wants en needs.

Really try original before praising SEM V crapmulation

Perhaps Urs or someone else can provide an update on RePro-1 to get the conversation back on track. Understandable if they're waiting until April to take the wraps off of things.

Ok, an update
RePro-1 is not only a research project and an upcoming product. It's also an ambitious project that we develop as a team from ground up. This serves to teach the dev department the things Clemens and I figured out during Diva development, and what I learned on top after Clemens left the team. As a side effect I was able to start a blog which I wrote during vacation in February:
https://urs.silvrback.com
I'm eager to explain things so that no PhD is required. that is, even though some stuff is very devvy, much of it should be digestible by the technologically inclined user as well. Some the blog also serves the purpose to clarify misconceptions or false information that pops up in forums every now and then, such that I can just post a link to the blog instead of writing the same stuff again and again.
Back to RePro, we'll spend the next few weeks implementing the basic functionality, or whatever is missing thereof (not much). The goal of the RePro-1 Alpha is then - similar to Protoverb - to see if people can hear the difference of some of the properties of Analogue Modeling I'm describing in my blog, plus some I haven't described yet. The goal of the Alpha/Researchware is *not* to create an authentic emulation - it is solely there to explore the boundaries of human perception in regards to dsp/modeling technologies, i.e. "how much oversampling is enough".
Once that's done we'll sit down and add/tweak things to match the Pro One. With some twists maybe. Which I won't speak about yet. I think it's gonna be cool.

This sounds very cool Urs! I'm really looking forward to RePro-1. I'm hoping someone can loan you (or you guys otherwise aquire) a Prodigy one of these days. Haven't had a chance to dive in yet, but aren't you kind of worried about having trade secrets out on the wild via that blog?

I think very much out of the box there. I'm convinced that we gain more from this kind of disclosure than we give away. I'll elaborate on this a bit more, eventually.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:This sounds very cool Urs! I'm really looking forward to RePro-1. I've become proud owner of two Prodigies just recently

Amazona had a real Mini for their comparison, and they said that Arturia nails the oscillators, and the filter until a certain level of resonance, after that, they said, it rather sounds like the Juno-60 filter. Arturia's emulations aren't a joke, just because people who have no idea, and who DO NOT have the original gear say so.e-modic wrote:99% do not have the original gear. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your blog. I am no coder, but I like digging in the technical aspect of things to get a better understanding of how stuff works.Urs wrote:As a side effect I was able to start a blog which I wrote during vacation in February:

I also just wanted to share my sympathies regarding the RE ordeal. We communicated early on when I speculated about what RE's were (before it was public), and you couldn't really say anything at that point. I was really excited to see your name among the developers, and I was equally sad with how things turned out in the end (and I'm not blaming you). There's a lot more that could be said, but this is not the time or place to do it.
All I'll say now is: Keep up the great work, I hope that you'll have time to update your blog regularly!
