- Algo 4 & 6 correct feedback for Mark I
- Operator on/off switch on UI
- Master tune knob
- Multiple sysex streams (like DX7s/2 & TX816) support (including for sysex send)
- Single click program select
- Fix stupid sysex cartridge model number

Anybody have or know where to look for the patch that used to be called "Zawinul" in the original DX7? I suppose it's possible that it was something I downloaded from a BB or got from a friend, but I know it was on one of my cartridges.

What about the filter clicking?

Dear asb2m10,

did you see this mail about different sounding patches? It would be good to know if you're aware of them and to know if changes are planned. Or if I did something wrong :-)

Cheers

Damn, I can't find the sound that sounded totally different anymore. However, I tested a few sounds and here are some where Dexed sounds noticeably different from the original (regardless of engine):

1: On DX7 sound goes completely away when Mod Wheel is at 0, on Dexed it's just quieter

3: Dexed reaches Sustain phase faster than DX7

4: Operators 3/4: Beating is slower in lower register

5: Different timbre

6: Different overtones and movements between Dexed and DX7
(play staccato in high register)

7: The DX7 displays a buzziness which Dexed, regardless of chosen sound engine, doesn't have. This unclean buzziness is quite sexy, though.
(play long bass note)

8: envelope times are different

9: Operators 4/6: Dexed has more overtones than the more mellow sounding DX7, making it sound more "digital" (yes, I know...)

10: this sound doesn't work at all in Dexed

11: differences when using Mark I or Modern sound engine

12: same sound as above: Modern sounds closer to original :-)

You can find the SysEx here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/383 ... 0.9.1..syx

Example 2 is missing because I can't find that sound anymore (see above!)

Are these known differences?

Thanks again for all the good work!

The filter wasn't meant to be a live tool; I'm not decided yet if I keep it. A lot a people want it removed since it wasn't on the original machine. I've added it since some patchs generate a lot of harmonics and the LPF is a good tool. Time will tell (before getting to 1.0), but if I keep it, the filter will be optimized for sure.

Yes, thanks for the feedback, that is the info that I was looking for. I'm not yet working on those, but I will keep this as a reference when I'm going to work on the next phase (0.9.3 and up).

Btw, I will add this info on the Dexed wiki. You are welcome to add other info about this.

Hi,
I just tried Dexed for the first time today - it's great!!

Can I ask a simple question? (it's probably buried in the 76 pages of this thread, somewhere...)

How can I save a patch from one cart in to another?
I've created a "blank" cart full of INIT patches - and it would be good to save things I like into this cart (to save looking through the thousands of patches in Dexed_cart_1.0.zip).

I tried saving a patch as a fxp, but that seems to save the cart that it came from too.

I'll keep trying, and will have a look through this thread - but if there's an easy way to do this - could someone point me to it?
Thanks a lot ;-)

OK - thanks. There's nothing really there about it. I'll just play around, and maybe just save "favorites" as fxp's or within the DAW (SONAR).

I'll play around more though...

Sorry - maybe I'm just being thick, but I'm just getting my head around how preset management works - so I can save things, and be able to find them again ;-)

I'm using ver 0.9.1

I've never had a "real" DX7, but I'm going to guess that a cart just had 32 patches in it (so we might also call it a bank).

By default, there is just "Dexed_01.syx" which has 32 patches in it (correct?)

Then when you load the Blackwhinny (man you deserve a medal) stuff (Dexed_cart_1.0.zip) there are bazillions of carts full of patches. BTW - the readme says you can load the zip file (after renaming it) - but I can't get that to work. I just unzipped (some of) it to my cartridges directory.

It still seems to me that any time you edit a patch, you have to save a whole "bank" (or cart?) of 32 presets - is that correct?

Somewhere around page 50 Ingonator said
So far i only see this being possible in FM8 which imports banks as single files for each patch. In Dexed it only seems to be possible to save single patches manually as single SYX files. A DX7 librarian could maybe possible too.
I can't find a way to do this though.

All I can do is
- hit "store", click "external file" and give a new name - and choose "store program and create a new copy of of the syx cartridge" - this saves all 32 presets as a syx file
- save as a fxp, but this still saves a whole bank of 32 patches
- save as fxb seems to do exactly the same

I'm not moaning by any means  Just checking if I'm missing something.
I *have* been trying to work this out - and I've read a lot of pages in this thread, and done some searching through it.

Even if I never edited a patch, it would still make sense to organise some "favourites" in their own bank (or cart) - so I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to work this out.

So - does anyone have an idea what I'm missing? :?

Hi Jbraner from what I can see in your post, you are NOT missing anything.
to be honest it took me a few tries to figure out how to store stuff and you are right there is no way( at the moment) to store a single patch separate from a full cart( aside from maybe storing it as part of a song in your DAW ). you have to go the whole hog and make a duplicate of everything ( totally annoying imho).

I'm sure there is a workaround though, ( one trick although its a laborious one is to create a working cart with all 32 patches set to initial state), then every time you go to store the file just give it the name of your working cart, ( you should get a message from windows asking if you want to replace the existing file, just say yes and go right ahead and save it ), your new syx file should have any modifications in place duly labelled and in place.

I actually like questions like that because it is helping me fill in the missing pieces,

Hi Pathworker,

When you do this - it will just overwrite your existing file with the full bank that is currently loaded.

I'm going to try a few librarians, and see if I can copy stuff from one cart to another. If it's not straightforward, I'll just give up and work with Dexed as it is ;-)

I'll report back, bu tit won't be for a few days (life getting in the way of things...) ;-)
