Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:

I own this synth and I love it. I'm used to MSEG and I'm trying now to understand better what Simon is talking about.Sendy wrote:Then use a different synth! Why would the developer add every single feature to his synth just because some people only like it 50%? Arcsyn is it's own thing, it's unusual and eccentric, and it makes sounds and sound sequences that other synths can't touch. Building some of these modulations out of MSEGs would take an insane amount of time, and trying to make an MSEG type of modulation with Arcsyn's LFOs would probably lead to strange, serendipitous results. The ADSR envelopes cover vanilla sound shaping fine.liquidsound wrote:Not user friendly and not easy to fine tune. Doable but not desirable.Sampleconstruct wrote:You can easily build MSEGs using the different LFO shapes and numerous steps, chromatic sequences for pitch sequencing as well.liquidsound wrote:The positive thing about complaining is that it shows how badly they want to work or buy this synth.
I'm surprised that it's missing some MSEG to complete the modulation madness.
There are SO MANY synths, and this one is wonderful and refreshing. Trust KVR to drain all the fun out of it

I think it's just about adapting to the unorthodox way the developer has coded ArcSyn, then it all becomes easy to grasp. So an LFO chain can also be a step sequencer or a sequence of whatever shaped curves/ramps/steps, exceeding the possibilities of classical MSEGs by far. ArcSyn could use more than 16 steps though, something for version 2...

That's the part I need to focus more.Sampleconstruct wrote:I think it's just about adapting to the unorthodox way the developer has coded ArcSyn, then it all becomes easy to grasp. I'm not giving up on this one.
Thanks for the leads.

Excellent, thankyou! If you do another maybe you could lead us through one of your wonderful patch creations?
The weirdness factor in this synth is amazing. haven't had so much fun exploring sound creation since my first few synths back in the 80s.

great tutorial! thank you for that. have been (slowly) finding my way about arcsyn, this helped a lot.Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:
(but what i really want to know is: what plugin did you use for the 'knock on wood' sound?)

That was a retro plugin named ankle on wood.fisherKing wrote:great tutorial! thank you for that. have been (slowly) finding my way about arcsyn, this helped a lot.Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:

i googled it, but...no 64bit AU. will have to create a patch in arcsyn, or sample the one from your video...Sampleconstruct wrote:That was a retro plugin named ankle on wood.fisherKing wrote:great tutorial! thank you for that. have been (slowly) finding my way about arcsyn, this helped a lot.Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:

Well, it's retro, no 64 Bit, it doesn't even have an interface.fisherKing wrote:i googled it, but...no 64bit AU. will have to create a patch in arcsyn, or sample the one from your video...Sampleconstruct wrote:That was a retro plugin named ankle on wood.fisherKing wrote:great tutorial! thank you for that. have been (slowly) finding my way about arcsyn, this helped a lot.Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:

Not? My old version is compatible with mostly any bit depth and got a gorgeous interface!Sampleconstruct wrote:Well, it's retro, no 64 Bit, it doesn't even have an interface.fisherKing wrote:i googled it, but...no 64bit AU. will have to create a patch in arcsyn, or sample the one from your video...Sampleconstruct wrote:That was a retro plugin named ankle on wood.fisherKing wrote:great tutorial! thank you for that. have been (slowly) finding my way about arcsyn, this helped a lot.Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first more or less basic tutorial analyzing and modifying an existing patch from Arrows in order to explain some functions and features of ArcSyn:

Sendy is right on and doesn't need to relax. I'm really glad when Dev's do something different.liquidsound wrote:I own this synth and I love it. Of Course he needs. His attach seems to forget that each one of us has requests based on their own knowledge (no taste btw...). Here for example I understood what Simon is talking about and I'm ready to embrace it and learn. MSEG are one of the favorite feature of today synths , so nothing wrong for my request.pdxindy wrote:Sendy is right on and doesn't need to relax. Now, if the new method offered by this great synth are better, or differently better, I need to understand it. Use another Synth? FR off limit? Since when.
Good for you guys to be the Masters. For me is a learning journey. Feel good about yourself then
BTW, your Bazille patches are way better than you comments. No sarcasm here. Good stuff.
