point taken about my suggested workaround, maybe i did not explain it very well sorry.
and don't give up on DeXeD. Fm is a completely different animal from say, subtractive synthesis.

I also use SymprezFM on an android device and the method for storing your own patches is somewhat similar to DeXeD

Oh, I'm not giving up - I'm just getting started! :hihi:

I'll probably just use it as a ROMPLER - but I *was* interested in putting some "favourites" into my own carts - just to make it easier than wading through all the stuff that's in Blackwhinny's collection

to be honest it took me a few tries to figure out how to store stuff and you are right there is no way( at the moment) to store a single patch separate from a full cart( aside from maybe storing it as part of a song in your DAW ). you have to go the whole hog and make a duplicate of everything ( totally annoying imho).

I'm sure there is a workaround though, ( one trick although its a laborious one is to create a working cart with all 32 patches set to initial state), then every time you go to store the file just give it the name of your working cart, ( you should get a message from windows asking if you want to replace the existing file, just say yes and go right ahead and save it ), your new syx file should have any modifications in place duly labelled and in place.

I actually like questions like that because it is helping me fill in the missing pieces,

really ? in the [CART] window, you can just drag with the mouse cartridge programs up (the selected cartridge) or down (the loaded cartridge into the synth). Why hit store each time ? Just fill with drag in drop the bottom cart and then it [STORE]... or maybe I don't understand the use case. :?

Post

@asb2m10 thanks for that one, completely forgot about it.

however I think what jbraner is trying to do( I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong). is to create a cart from scratch with his favourite patches in one place rather than having to search different carts all the time. so If you know a way, let us know then I can update the guide I am working on.

Thank you asb2m10!!

That's all I was looking for. I tried dragging things all around - but I didn't get my head around the difference between "what's loaded" and "what's in this cartridge you're looking at.

This is so simple!! I can drag presets around within a cartridge, and from a loaded cartridge to my "favourites" cartridge etc. This is exactly what I wanted to do - and it could have taken me 5 minutes to work it out, if I'd stumbled across it ;-)

Thanks for a wonderful program! For me this started out as looking for a nice "DX7 EP" sound for Kontakt. Then I figured - "why not just try Dexed?". Then my curiosity was aroused ;-)

I will contribute to the project by uploading a few graphics for the manual - I hope this will help the next person like me, who can't work it out.

Pathworker,
You can grab the images (give me a few minutes) for the manual, or PM me and I'll give you an email address - and we can exchange that way...

Here are some graphics for the doc. Feel free to change them or ignore them - but I think these will help...

I left them big - so that they're useful. Let me know if they're screwing up the thread, and I'll delete them or shrink them

Would anyone be willing to walk me through how to open and use Dexed? A basic question to be sure, but I'm very new to the VST world, and I've tried opening Dexed on its own, and in Studio One as a plug-in (which is the ultimate goal, so I can record with it) and I cannot get it to work, nor figure out anything about it beyond that it is going to sound great. Any sort of tutorial that shows anything prior to having the VST open, has been elusive, if not non-existent, in my searching, so I'm glad to have found this forum. I apologise if this has already been broken down earlier in the thread, but I'm sure it's second nature to you all and this saves me from searching page by page. I appreciate any and all help that comes my way.

Thanks for posting the info about managing single presets by drag and drop. I was having the some frustrations about not knowing on how to save or manage single presets in the cart. Of course I didn't RTFM ;)

Anyhow, drag and drop FTW. Really happy that this can be done and then I can just shunt the new compiled cart to the hardware unit. Awesomesauce!

Post

I appreciate the response! That's awesome, and seems really easy, but therein lies my problem. I have downloaded the Dexed master zip and 0.9.1, and no file from either of them shows up in the screen where the VSTs are found in the video. Is there something I'm missing there? I tried to drag the dexed.dll into Studio One from the folder, and no luck there either. I've double checked to make sure I have the Studio One plug-in extension up and running and it is.

Post

I don't use Studio One (I use SONAR) but it will be looking in specific folders for it's VST instruments and FX. This is where you have to copy the dexed dll.

Have you tried asking on a Studio One forum? This is pretty basic stuff, so you'll really need know how to do this. It *must* be in the Studio one manual...
