You do realise if you release it before Easter weekend people get to play with it over the weekend, if you release it on Monday people (ie me) have to wait till the next weekend to really get into itetherdesign wrote:Virta is being released on Monday March 28th with an intro price of $89. This synth really looks like a lot of fun, can't wait to dive into it. Just wish it was being released before the weekend.![]()

I'm really on the fence. What does it offer that is unique? If anyone can say at this point.

Not quite sure what to think about that one... Kinda cool, the concept is interesting but sonically, I don't hear anything that can't be done with other conventional effects...
Will need to test more...

Testing it out right now. It's interesting so far. I like the drone capabilities. It seems to excel as a pitch shifter. Though, i haven't spent that much time with it yet. The CPU is murder for me. In all fairness i do have a p.o.s sound card, but to be honest, i don't get a hit like this at 99+ (on a good day) using Serum or Diversion or Tantra. Until I get a better comp, Virta will have to wait.
Fiddle sticks!

*Edit - I should also point out that I haven't tested it in my other DAWs yet so, maybe there is hope.

Is the audio analysis module working fine for everyone else? I can only get a signal through 'pre', which means I'm kinda stuck using it as a classic vocoder at the mo.
The other outputs on the audio module are always off with 2 'stuck' lights, and looking at Ridan's screenshot above, I'm wondering if the same issue is going on there - different DAW, but the same 2 lights are 'stuck' [?] in that screenshot.
Pretty sure the routing is fine. Audio is going in (I can hear/patch it through the 'pre' output) and getting MIDI in there to patch around works fine too. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem (and ideally fixed the same blunder I might be missing) before bothering Randy in the Madrona forum.
Ahh, the joys of being an early adopter.

I'm getting the same. Windows 8.1 and Reaper.

Thanks plusch. Spotted someone else has asked about this in the Madrona forum since I posted the above so I've added my experience over there too.plusch wrote:I'm getting the same. Windows 8.1 and Reaper.

Randy has replied over at the Madrona forum and said the symptoms match what would happen when the internal filter has 'blown up', and suspects this may be due to some last minute changes made before release affecting the Windows build. He'll be looking into it tomorrow.cron wrote:Thanks plusch. That bug is a bit of a letdown... I was really looking forward to playing around with Virta, but only having access to the Pre output really limits what you can do with an audio input.cron wrote:Randy has replied over at the Madrona forum and said the symptoms match what would happen when the internal filter has 'blown up', and suspects this may be due to some last minute changes made before release affecting the Windows build. I did still play around with it, and it looks like a lot of fun. I understand the comments about being able to do similar things with other tools, but the Madrona plugins are little worlds unto themselves. They're actually kind of like meditations on minimalism- a very restrictive toolset which demands exploration and creative thinking. I mean, it would be a whole lot easier to just throw a bunch more oscillators and LFOs and filters at the problem, but this is all about creative constraints.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing around with a fully functional demo.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Virta continues with the ridiculous performance-issues. If only they could release something usable (in terms of performance), but with that same lovely UI and flexibility. A quality setting would certainly help.

I only recently got Kaivo and I'm totally in love with it. It has gotten me into Aalto too, which I picked up in a sale but never used.
This looks a like a no-brainer. And I already know the GUI
Oh yeah. Nice work Randy.
