Every tutorial from Steve I've seen so far was simply a pleasure to watch. For instance these on Icon collective:

For the people who just jumped into Serum recently (like myself :-)).

- 8 LFO's
- drag-and-drop wav files to the Noise Oscillator
- noise oscillator sample embedding for easy preset sharing/collaboration
- several browser enhancements, and more!

(there's several huge new features which didn't make it in to this release, but will be coming in the future!)
Any hints for the future Steve? Serum can pretty much do anything I throw at it anyway... struggling to imagine what else you could add!

As for the sound/oscillators/filters, sure it comes down to personal taste in the end.

Steve already addressed the complaints about the so-called harshness of the default presets in an earlier post in this thread.

Personally, I have demoed several soft synths before buying (am not rich unfortunately :-)) but the quality of the Serum sound just blew me away! I was lucky enough to be able to collect quite a few synths over the years (also some sweet analog ones) but Serum is a very welcome addition to my existing sound pallette. And I haven't even experimented to layer it with analog sounds yet (which I occasionally like to do).

For those who missed these in earlier posts, you may want to listen to these examples. The sweet first Serum preset pack from XFER, or the beautiful patches Joseph Hollo made (even before the Hall reverb was added):

Again, it's all a matter of personal taste but I for one am a very happy Serum owner. :tu:

Yes, Serum soudns extremely clean and hi-fi but I find it characterless/bland. I guess it is just not for me. Another very clean sounding, antialiased synth, Diversion, sounds a bit similar but more musical to my ears.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Updated my Kore template for Serum with 8 LFOs

wish it was possible to assign more of the knobs and buttons though - some just are not exposed for automation (especially from the LFOs, only 2 knobs are exposed the rest can't be mapped)

Sorry I know this is a Serum thread, but any bigger UI planned for Nerve?

This mirrors my own initial experience with Serum. I was an early adopter, but I must say that it has never really lit my fire. It may well be that I'm not as appreciative of the super clean Hi-Fi, super straight frequency response & super low aliasing concept as I should be.

In fact, I usually feel most inspired by 'dirty' instruments – among my favorites are Guido's Modelonia and Sinnah and, among h/w, Sequential's Prophet VS (famous, or infamous, for its aliasing).

In fact, traditional acoustic instruments are rarely 'clean' in the Serum way. But I'll make another effort, adding some 'dirt' in the chain after Serum, such as Wave Arts' wonderful Tube Saturator 2, a Kush Transformer Model, an Sknote Disto 2 or even an Audiothing Speaker, to see if I can bend the sound character to my personal taste.

If not, I might make it available as a discount bargain to someone more appreciative of its character.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

may Steve can add a switch/knob for Dirty mode? :)

i love serum, for me it invites you to sound design and try out, something which Icarus atm doesnt do for me. all the visual feedbacks, the inviting GUI is a big part for me, something devs should be aware of in 2016 and later!
you can do some very awesome electronic textures with Serum which remind me of NIN which i hadnt done with other vsts like that. love it!

I know it's amazing all the textures you can get out of Serum. Those clean oscillators and unique filters and awesome distortion FX can put together the craziest, most hi-res sounds out there.

Hi,

Could someone recommend some websites where I can hear a good selection of tracks made with Serum ? I find it odd that there are no audio demos on the Serum website.

I'm still not sure I need to buy it. Maybe hearing something very cool made with Serum will make me buy it.

Thanks,

I keep audio demos (and famous people quotes, etc) off my site intentionally, I'd rather people click and download the demo to formulate an opinion, rather than listening to mp3's. Serum has gotten incredibly popular in Trap and other "bass music" genres, but I hear great stuff sent to me from all across the board (chiptune, rock, ambient, IDM, etc).

Here's some interesting listening material:

Skrillex remake with Serum - even the drums are done in Serum!

Serum Toolkit (first official Serum preset expansion):

interesting 100% Serum jungle sound design:

mentioned earlier in this thread, one Serum instance:

and here's some entirely random stuff that I bookmarked if you want more:

I really don't like making such statements in public, so I'll leave it at "I'm interested in doing that"...
Is the patch browser going to get an update?
Yes, I added custom field and preference and a general db update in the very latest update.

Hey Steve,

The demo version still shows as 1.0.1.7 from Oct 2014. I understand you've made loads of updates since release...is there a newer demo version available?

Post

i don't buy vstis anymore but serum is going to be an exception.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the links to lots of Serum tracks. This will surely help me decide.

Cheers,
