For me Pianoteq is something of a benchmark in terms of sound and sophistication for physical modelling based instruments. I regularly use the AAS derived physical modelling instruments in Live, but they are a long way from the cutting edge and sound pretty crude compared to Pianoteq.

I'm planning on checking put Madrona Labs Kaivo, but was wondering what else was out there that's based on physical modelling, but takes a step up from the previous generation?

Modelonia is great, but needs finesse and a nice convolution reverb:

Also this hybrid with lots of control:

And this is sort of vocal modeling:

I still find Sculpture the best from all in general.
But of course there are better ones for some specific areas like Pianoteq, Chromaphone etc.
However i did never find any tool which could change timbres in such an "organic" and interesting way in realtime like Sculpture.
My second fav is Reaktor Prism, then Chromaphone, then maybe Pianoteq which is of course the best for piano and similar key sounds but still could not replace a thing like Keyscapes for me.
Some other interesting things are the Finger Fiddle app for iOS which has a great GUI and a good engine to emulate strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass).
I also really like the Reaktor ensemble Serenade 3 which is similar to Finger Fiddle (the GUI is not as good but with automations it can create awesome things).
In general i really miss the next thing in terms of physical modeling. I´m still waiting for a kind of Sculpture 2.

Yeah, MODO Bass really does rock. It's the only non synth bass I use anymore.

Kaivo is incredible, but some patches will kick your system's ass. I have a quad 2.8 i7 and sometimes it maxes out an entire core.

So let me get this right, you get this AND Alchemy in Logic? All you are missing is true algorithmic analog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rIcWE6Nhns

If I had Logic I would get Largo and DIVA and call it a day. You done.
