Re old components - all that stuff is happening in old guitar amps and Hammond organs too. Components going off value with age etc resulting in altered behaviour and tones.

Yeah, he's right, mine needs some time on the bench. That said, she's going to get all of those factory patch mods while she's there!spunkmuffin wrote:This guy replaces almost all components in his CAT.![]()

Watching this makes me grateful I don't have ancient electronics to mess with.
You know, I love being mostly ITB, but, having some old analog electronics around is something worth the effort, IMHO, of course.

he’s not kidding - I had a CAT for a while in the mid 80s, I thought my mono/poly was bad (would need to be on for about 15mins at least before it was even worth tuning the oscilators against each other) but the CAT made it seem rock-solid stablespunkmuffin wrote:12:30 - "I'll tell ya as I remember playing this thing it was one of the most thermally unstable devices known to man"
nostalgia is a great way to forget what a pain in the arse classic analogs of the period were to actually work with

Indeed. The problem is, some devs like to emulate these "features" into software by claiming " this is how our ref unit sounds"
That doesnr mean its desirable or intended. Its a fault or limit of old tech. You cant tell some ppl tho.

We have planned to provide a tool that converts SysEx to .h2p. SysEx import directly is difficult as we do not have a concept of preset banks, and SysEx is typically a full bank.electro wrote:Will .syx import make the 1.0 release? Woah... I want those too! I haven't found schematics for them though...ghettosynth wrote:That said, she's going to get all of those factory patch mods while she's there!

Just give a prompt for the user on how and where he wants to load the bank.Urs wrote:We have planned to provide a tool that converts SysEx to .h2p. a Hammond B3
a Fender Rhodes
a Minimoog
an Arp String Synth
We'd have to show up a good 30 minutes before our shows just to warm up the analogs.
Incidentally, he also had to keep a complete set of replacement tines for the Rhodes. They break.
Very true. But at least the MiniMoog and the string synth didn't break our backs.nostalgia is a great way to forget what a pain in the arse classic analogs of the period were to actually work with

I think analogue equipment, aside from great sound, is also great to keep you fit. It's a feature.
I still remember carrying Jupiter-4 and PPG2.3 to gigs. I was smashed afterwards.
Oh and when they break they make you put to practice your electronics knowledge, too. It's good for the brain.
Analogues are good for your health!

I have NO sympathy for musicians complaining about carrying a keyboard or bass amp up a flight of steps. What a lazy bunch of sooks!

Well then, that does present a (minor) problem. I assumed that they were in the posted list, I didn't look in detail. It matters not though, this isn't rocket science. I'll be doing the same thing to my Arp Avatar and going through my 1613.Urs wrote:Woah... I want those too! That said, I'll do as much research as possible before I start and if I find any documentation I'll let you know.

I had to carry my Arp Solina up the stairs to the first floor...never again! This thing was designed to sound gorgeous and break people's backs....spunkmuffin wrote:I have NO sympathy for musicians complaining about carrying a keyboard or bass amp up a flight of steps. What a lazy bunch of sooks!
