Hi Everyone,

I have a very small analog mixer (6 inputs, 2 outputs) to which I have connected my small synth setup. I have recently begun to think about how I would record these various instruments (maybe 4-6 in total), and had thought I would replace the analog mixer with a USB mixer, thinking that the small Mackie and Yamaha mixers would output 4-8 tracks via USB. However, it seems that these small mixers only output the master out (L&R) via USB. Does anyone have a recommendation for a low-cost way to record multiple tracks via USB?

Thanks!

im no expert on hardware, but i think you need an usb audio interface not a mixer.

each out would get its own track in your daw. or you could combine them for 2 stereo tracks...or 2 mono 1 stereo...you get the idea.

sorry for the stupid long link, thats amazons doing:

Thanks! I was thinking of a mixer/USB interface so that I could replace the mixer entirely when I am not recording. This one looks good, so long as the quality is there :).

The price tag you set woun't give you more than a 2-track interface, Presonus has nice gear worth the price:

Allen & Heath ZEDi-10 Mixer and 4x4 USB Audio Interface
$199

Maybe a step closer to what you're looking for.

Definitely closer - thanks! I was thinking a combined mixer (with knobs)/USB interface to both take the place of my current mixer for live performance/monitoring but adding in the USB multitrack recording capability.

What you want exists, but it costs more. And is probably Firewire. :hihi:

There are a (very) few multichannel mixers with USB audio interfaces built in, and yeah, they are hard to find in a small format like you're asking for, and you'll probably have to spend around $500. You'd be lucky to find a multi-channel audio interface in that price range, and mixers cost more because all those sliders and knobs drive the prices up fast.

Hard to find under $200, but if you are willing to pay more, the Roland MX-1, Behringer XR-18 and a number of MOTU products will get you there (MOTU and Behringer are controlled via your computer, the MX-1 has a control surface).

If you need more than the 4x4 USB interface/mixer there's this but for $449. (or $19/month x 24 months @ 0% financing)

Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK Mixer and USB (14x12) Audio Interface with Effects

I have nothing to do with Sweetwater by the way, they just have good info and specs for their products.
