I'd be going for using parallel signals, one cleaner than the other. You probably do this anyway.

I'd suggest trying Izotope trash 2 for dirtier and Bass Professor Mark II. In parallel.

I don't tune down or do metal, but I find this combo excellent for dirty with some actual definition and low frequency.
