can we hear the same lick on both banjo and sitar please? :hihi:
Remember, you asked for this. There's no going back; once heard you may lose the will to make music forever in the face of such stunning vurt(hoho)uosity;

was hoping nobody would just download obviously available midi files from the internet and tweak them to their favorite patches. Did anybody do that? I know I was super tempted to try it. Just curious.

To me that would have felt like a rather pointless exercise. I downloaded an mp3 of Danse Macabre from here, loaded it into one track in Samplitude, then went through it listening carefully and trying to work out all the chords by ear, recreating them on separate MIDI instrument tracks.

It was quite laborious - but it was much more enjoyable and creative than it would have been to just re-voice a MIDI file or even to work from a pdf of the score.

As I said in my submission post, it was a piece that I'd attempted (and abandoned) 40-odd years ago using a home-built analog synth, so it was very nice to have an incentive to finally try to do it justice :)

Yes, had to go back to school on this one. Forgot really how difficult it was to do. Has got me listening to some Youtube virtuoso stuff now and just shaking my head in awe. How do they do that?

I know I'm super late with this (since there are less than 4 days left), and it's shameless self promotion on top of thread hijacking (apologies), but last month we had 7 participants (lots of new faces) and this month we're barely scratching 3 again. Even if you can't participate yourself, every spreading the word is helping just as much.

You're invited to the Songwriting Competition over on Mix Challenge

The theme of the game (SWC013) is "Dark Corners of the Mind" (spreading awareness about mental health issues) and the desired genre is "free to select".

There is no limit to what tools you use, joining is absolutely free, you will get feedback to your production (a mandatory rule for the voting process). Bonus: free licenses for the winners podium.

Would love to see you folks over there as well. :tu:

If you weren't such a power-mad host people would join you. Maybe. Stick with your mix-comp. Last I checked it was blowing up. Don't blow it. Fact check. Doesn't only the winner win? So that's not really an attractive podium of 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Just curious if you reversed that deathly decision you made a while back.

Anyway...I'll compete against my old friends I see have returned if you open the door. Won't ever say another word there...accept to review of course. I told you before...don't put the fire out on rivalry...let it burn.
