Hey!
Some time ago a user pdxindy posted a demo sound built on u-He's Repro5. This is it:
https://draigathar.org/sounds/RePro5-3.mp3
The original post was here, actually.

Sad thing, that user can't remember how this sound was built, nor have that preset anymore.
Anyway, I was surprised because it sounded similar to some stuff I heard in Mick Gordon's DOOM soundtrack and I didn't expect this to come out from a synth without further heavy processing. I thought this kind of sound came from heavily distorted and processed electric guitars. I tried to reproduce it using either Synthmaster or ANA2, but I can't find the exact settings to sound similar, that deepness and howling when you move up one or two octaves. I know there's lots of resonance and distorsion there, and then reverb, but can't find the exact thingy.
Any help is appreciated.

He explains it quite in depth in this video, starting from minute 17
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4FNBMZsqrY
It all just starts with a single simple sine-wave, split and fed into few parallel paths, acting as layers.
Making that sound (or most of it) with a softsynth, even multi-layer, isn't probably the best way to approach this; it is much better done using the daw's routing system and your best VST effects, somehow corresponding to the hardware he's talking about in his explanation.
The softsynth you choose should only output the pure sine-wave, with the ability of tweaking its ADSR and portamento if needed. Everything else is best done in parallel tracks loaded with dedicated VST effects, mainly distortion units, as shown in the video.

Thank for that great resource. It blows my mind that he starts with just a humble sine wave.Niowiad wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 11:26 am He explains it quite in depth in this video, starting from minute 17

BTW, I got some promising results using Helm alone and it's included FX. Helm is a very simple Open source substractive synth and I had no expectations. It's not the best synth in the world, but for this particular task, I found it surprisingly capable. Still not there, but I learnt a couple things.
I can do a software only multipath pipeline using FLSTUDIO's patcher. You can create that sort of self contained multiple paths sound flow. Worth a look.
Thanks.

Just to give the underground its dues, Gordon's methods and outcomes are near-identical to what Emptyset was doing a few years prior. They tend to change their working methods every year, but this was basically their sound of 2011-2013ish.
