I've heard/read in multiple podcasts/interviews that he does a lot of layering with his drums. He makes his drums by having at least three separate layers: one for the body, one for the transient and one for the air/tail. For snares he's using 909 snares (for the tone/body) which he tunes to 200 Hz, layered with other samples that have a different character. He also compresses his drum hits really tight, making them extremely snappy, and I believe he also uses quite a lot of limiting by the way his drums are usually super loud and upfront. He does all his drum in audio, which makes quick editing easier for him.

He won’t admit it, but Skrillex’s early stuff used a lot of BHK Samples. Their sound designer just showed me side by side examples of both Noisia and Skrillex tracks compared to samples from the Rough Connections packs. They’re all famous as sound designers these days, but everyone starts from raw material from somewhere.
